Boola 0 Posted August 9, 2004 Hi, I took my C to VW at the weekend to have a look at my interior fan. The thing has stopped working on setting 1 and the AC now only works on setting 1! So I have AC but no fan or fan but no aircon!! The upshot of this meeting was that the mechanic thought that I needed a new switch for the fan. Aparently behind the fan control dial there are two switches, one for the fan and another for the AC. The mechanic said that the whole unit would need replacing as the fan, heater and aircon control module is only avaibable in one piece. He also said it would cost at least £250 to replace. Please can you tell me if: a) You agree with VWs diagnosis. b) It is true that the whole fan/ heater / AC control module comes as a single unit. c) You know a very good garage in SW London (Twickenham area) that can be relied on to do the work and not rip me off like VW want to - they are on £100 per hour. Thanks
dinkus 10 Posted August 9, 2004 Ok firstly, I'm sure there are places that are both more qualified and will charge less than half than in labour. Second, you can probably do it yourself. Take some time and find a switch from a car someone is breaking and have a go. Not too sure if it's a dash-out job though, if it is then you're looking at a big load of work. kvwloon 0 Posted August 9, 2004 Sorry, it's not much use to you, but £100 an hour - WTF  !
Guest Posted August 9, 2004 I thought 85 quid an hour was bad in my local in Oxford (which it is, but not that bad)
