richmeyer 0 Posted May 8, 2003 hi ive got a L plate vr6, and there are a few problems with it but i thought id go through one at a time. the spoiler does come up perfectly ok on the dashboard switch, but not automatically at speed. does anyone know how the electronics work that make it go up? cheers
stormseeker 0 Posted May 8, 2003 Have you got an aftermarket Radio unit fitted? If they're not fitted with the correct electrical adapter they can interfere with the RoadSpeed Signal (VSS) that the spoiler activation unit uses. The roadspeed signal is wired to the radio for those that have auto volume adjustment - i.e. gets louder as you drive faster.
G60Jet 1 Posted May 8, 2003 if it works with the radio off then thats the answer, i'd unplug it just in case

G60Jet 1 Posted May 10, 2003 okay thought about this ramdomly last night Raise the spoiler manually and the drive top over 70mph then slow down and see is the spoiler drops automatically. Another way to help find the problem may be?????
stormseeker 0 Posted May 10, 2003 Been thinking about his too. There is a speed sensor in the gearbox, but I think that the signal for the spoiler comes out of the back of the instrument cluster - i.e. raw data (pulses?) go into ins. cluster and VSS signal (voltage level) comes out. Therefore if speedo works, sensor must work. Assuming the VSS signal is coming out of the ins cluster ok then it must be either Spoiler activation module (see here for some details on how to find it) or some wiring fault (like radio mentioned above). If spoiler works OK on the manual switch, the motors/mechanism etc. in the tailgate must all be OK
