KEVIN JAMES 0 Posted August 24, 2004 probably asked a thousand times or more! how would i get my g60 kicking out the 200 bhp figure,i.e- what would i need and how much would it all cost?
RACK 0 Posted August 24, 2004 You can get bout 185-195bhp with a chip and 68mm pulley swap for around £250 I was shocked with the difference this made. But make sure the charger is up to it first. Get it rebuilt or flowed bout £300-£400. After that kind off power the standard intercooler starts to struggle, go for a Golf G60 one but it will cost ya bout £500, but can add a lot of power, ask JimG60, I think his was about 20-30bhp more than a car with a similar set up except Jim had the Golf IC. Speak to Darren (G-Man) on this forum or John Mitchell (16VG60) they know loads about G60s
24V Renshaw 0 Posted August 24, 2004 I have just a 71mm Pulley and a BBR Chip and had 199.6 BHP on the rollers at stealth, (on a hot day) so there's your answer. Not a lot will get your G60 to 200BHP. However make sure everything is perfect first as I see a lot of cars with bucket loads of mods that produce carp power because they are not good to start with. KEVIN JAMES 0 Posted August 24, 2004 cheers for that guys, i was going too get the charger rebuilt just for piece of mind. The cars done 115k and the charger dosen`t look asthough its been rebuilt. Can you do the chip and pulley by yourself? or is it a garage job?
RACK 0 Posted August 24, 2004 It's not that hard, the chips usually just a case of cracking open the ECU pulling the old one out and popping the new one in. The pulley can be a bit tricky, but nothing too hard.
Supercharged 2 Posted August 24, 2004 cheers for that guys, i was going too get the charger rebuilt just for piece of mind. The cars done 115k and the charger dosen`t look asthough its been rebuilt. Can you do the chip and pulley by yourself? or is it a garage job? Get it down to G-werks mate, my car was on 89k and the charger had never been off, altho it was in good condition overall, the toothed rubber timing belt inside was about to snap and I don't think it would have made it to 100k's I went for the Stage 4+ rebuild, SNS v5.5chip and 68mm pulley with new V belt to match 8)
potatonet 0 Posted September 2, 2004 uh huh, I have a G60 in the states with a worn out charger that needs rebuilding with a 65mm pulley and a custom programmed ECU, my car gets about 200 at the weels right now, my charger has been dropping PSI so I am at about 13-13.5 right now. The car pulls like no tomorrow and I agree with the Golf G60 IC its a much better idea even though they are very hard to find. make sure that if you do the pulley you check to see if the shafts match otherwise you will be doing a lot of tapping and filing. fast x 0 Posted September 12, 2004 G60Renshaw, yes mate i saw ur car but how much u want for 6 7 8 grand???? let me kwon thanks philip.
Banana Man 0 Posted September 12, 2004 potatonet, what have you had done as that power figure at the wheels is probably the equivalent of 225bhp at the crank which is the most common figure we talk about over here not whp
24V Renshaw 0 Posted September 13, 2004 fast x, To be honest I put the sign in the window at Edition 38 as a bit of a joke, as I am not really intending to sell my car yet as I want to install V6 4 motion engine and running gear etc.. However obviously if someone was to come to me offering £8K for the car as it stands I would have to seriously consider it. :) Cheers Jay
Jim 2 Posted September 13, 2004 £8k, I think, is too low considering what you have done to it, and the stunning condition its in Jay - seriously.
potatonet 0 Posted September 13, 2004 oh ok whats does bhp stand for cause I thought it was braking horsepower, I guess I get 225 bhp, I got the thing chassis dyno tested and it pulled a 198.6 max for hp and 217.1ft/lbs for torque. dont know how to convert that to nm, sorry. and jimsg60, what have you done to your car performance wise. also what altitude are you at? it changes the HP drastically, I am at 1500 ft. Jim 2 Posted September 13, 2004 BHP = Brake Horse Power You can see the modification list on my car in this link - dunno what height I was at when I had the power tests done though!
