question 1 fuel pump or two? on 1.8 16v

 

been getting mixed answers and local part supplier autosave says they couldonly find one in the book

any info would be appreciated.

 

also anyonw changed therie fuel filetr by themselve on theri 16v as im wondering if theres anything different or any tips

theres one in the tank(lift pump)and one in front of the tank

mate the one that normally gives up the ghost is the one in front of the tank.

GSF (german french swedish parts) charge £85 according to the site they have.

 

If you turn your ignition on and you hear a noise...its the pump 'priming'..if this stops then its that pump, not sure how you can tell if its the one in the tank..

 

As i said in my reply...i can sort you out anyway, but i dont know how to remove them and i also have fuel still in my tank, soon as i do it..i'll clean em up and get you a delivery charge. :wink:

It's common for the lift pump in the tank to fail, which causes the main pump to sound like it's knackered. Make sure you change the right one as there's a significant cost difference between the two.

 

The fuel filter is straight forward to change. There's a banjo bolt at each end and a clamp that holds the filter to the main pump assembly. It's way easier if you have access to a pit or a hydraulic car lift for a short while. Expect to get petrol everywhere so just be cautious of setting fire to the whole lot, i.e. smoking/welding/grinding/etc in the vicinity is probably not a good idea. :roll:

 

After the filter has been changed it's likely that the car will take several seconds to start as the system will need time to re-prime.

Yep, my mates lift pump went but by the time he realised where the problem was, the main pump was also knackered due to the extra work it was doing.
