Digital vs dial temp gauge

Recommended Posts

My temp gauge is not working, however scrolling through the MFA computer I see an oil temperature reading, can I just use this instead?

What kind of running temperature range is normal?

cheers

The temp reading on the dash is for the water temp - given the choice, i'd rather have both running!

Water temps should average (once up and running) between about 80/90 degrees on a simple clear easy run, possibly going up to about 110 when crawling in traffic.. oil should be around 100 degrees operating normally and perhaps up to 120/125 when hot / stuck in traffic.

Yes you can, but it's worth noting that the temp on the MFA is the oil temp and the dial is coolant temp.

Running temp on a VR is around 90-110 ish, but I've no idea for a valver.

The temp gauge not working is probably just a dead sensor. They tend to only be £5ish from the stealer.

Cheers guys, using the digital oil gauge is all very well but theres no big red bar to indicate when to panic.

Those numbers should give me a rough guide and reassuring fit into what I've been seeing of around 100 up to 120 in summer traffic. Not having to top up coolant and having no temp gauge was kinda makes me a bit paranoid. For a fiver a thermostat replacement is going to have to go up on my todo list .

you need to change the black temp sender which is in the plastic flange on the front of the head... About £7 from GSF or Eurocarparts... That should sort out your water temp gauge... :)
