Corrado Spotting! Was it you? [Archive February 06]

N reg Green corrado trying to keep up into Brighton marina sat night anyone ?? -
mine did the same, when we took the fans off i found a 10mm spanner imprinted on the radiator. had been there for a few years (as it had only ever seen vw servicing before i bought it you can bet your life it was the yts lad) and it finally put a small hole in the radiator after i installed the lower stiffer suspension :( As for no being a single unit, well mine was, I got a replacement from GSF for £125 delivered and thats been running really well ever since. Oh and installation is pretty straight forward for a novice, or a mechanic should have it done in under an hour.

thats the mk5 golf

they are team dynamics motorsport alloys, 5x100 et35 bore 57.1 I believe, tyres are 205/40/17, i see that the golf uses 215/40/17, just run a tyre calc and it's all of 1.8% out, 69.08mph when your actually doing 70, so thats not a problem, at least i could use the tyres till they need replacing.

The time has come for a more economical car now i'm going to be driving large miles, I really want to keep my alloys from the corrado but will they fit a mk4 diesel. I've had a look about and they look like they will, can't find alot on bore size though. Anyone know ?

I paid £650 for a gasket change, head check and top water hose. £300 labour and the rest was parts and Vat. Over half what vw quoted me and it seems to be working 100%

with all the heat generated by the vr6 a 57i kit isn't the way to go, The bmc cda airbox is probably best, I had one and it worked great and still gave a throaty growl (carbon encosed filter £160 with right adaptor), or a carbonio intake and K+n filter which locates in the front bumper recess, thats what i have now but haven't been able to fit due to a busted ankle :( or there are some enclosed kits on ebay for the corrado that may be worth checking out. Alot of people just say use the original box and a k+n anyway :)

I guess as this site is American then the ecu upgrade chip/map is for the 2.8 vr6 engine, they don't have the 2.9 vr6 in their corrados....

elbow and new rubber are £10.44 from vw, I just brough them a few weeks ago, use a decent bit if silicone grease when fitting though :)
-
I took the strips off of mine, and as you'd expect the very last one i took off, I found some bar steward had superglued the strip back on some years ago :(

you can cable tie the feck out of the springs on the shocks you take off the car but you still need to compress the new ones, clamps are £20 from halfords or around £10 on ebay :)

I thought the slam panel would be the first thing out too :) thanks

Having done the head gasket and the coolant pipes, replacing the sump I now find that I have a mysterious coolant leak, car is only running at around 80 degrees temp and there seems to be a hell of alot of smoke coming from the radiator, it's actually thrown some coolant out on the way home today which hit the fan and sprayed all out of my grill, quite impressive to the public. Anyway I've ordered a new rad but how easy or hard are they to fit ? I've done a search and read that it's abit tricky but not the hardest job. so does anyone have a quick fire guide to replacing the rad ?

thanks guys, I don't fancy throwing £70 away and have to do it twice :) Slow and steady wins the race as it were

I have to replace the my leaky sump this weekend but just need to confirm what the torque setting is going to be for the bolts (vr6 engine), any other tips welcomed :) I did a search but came up wiht 2 different answers
