Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
King_prawn replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
Replace the word "mod" with butcher. Took me all day to fit mine. Damn oil cooler sandwich plate had to be turned to clear the u-bend. I would change the oil filter while you're there as well. -
fitted a new lambda when i did the exhaust. mpg is good.

Have a strange problem with my G60. Every so often when giving it some beans, from about 4Krpm up it seems to muster up a huge surge of power from out of nowhere. This doesn't happen very often and if I change up, it goes back to normal. Any Ideas on this?. Makes me think that the engine isn't running at peak performance normally, but occasionally reaches its optimum. Having said this, it seems to be running well. Its got a chip and 68 pulley on it, do you think it needs a bigger intercooler?

What year is your Corrado? If its like mine ( 1991-2) then the back box should have 2 hooks at the front of the box and 1 at the back near the bumper. Mine was knocking on the beam so i tied it up to get it off the beam, but now the tailpipe rattles against bumper :( dont bother with cheap GSF hangers, I bought some and within 2 months they were stretched and perished.

Cheers guys, I live near St. Austell Goodridge. Rob

Anyone know what type of lube to spray into a G60 with no boost return? Also the frequency it needs to be done? Thanks Rob

I used a 3 foot pipe on a t-bar to crack the front bolts. Had a nightmare splitting the lower ball joint though. Other than that everything went smoothly. Make sure you've got the right rear bush if using powerflex. Burn the old ones out and cut the metal sleeve in 2 places, it comes out easy then.

I would recommend buying VAG top mounts as the GSF ones ive bought are crap. They flex quite badly when you push down on the wing, maybe its the stiffness of the FK springs thats doing it but i plan to replace them before getting the suspension geometry checked.

O K I fitted the FK Konigsport shocks and new top mounts to my G60 but when you push down on the body it looks like the rubber doughnut/top mount is flexing quite a bit. This is allowing the top plate etc to move up and down as well. Is this normal? my old ones never did it. Ive taken it for a drive and the ride seems ok. When I fitted the top mounts i fitted them so the bearing is in contact with the top spring cup and then used the special nut from the old shock to hold it on there. Is this right? It seemed logical as this is how the old shock was assembled. Also can anyone give me the part numer for the rear axle bush? I bought powerflex ones (pfr85-207) but cant see this beveled edge on them that everyone is talking about. Many thanks, Rob

Anyone else got these who can confirm this? Rob

O.K ive bought a set of FK Konigsport shocks, but im baffled by the height adjustment. When i wind the adjuster rings up the body of the damper all it seems to be doing is compressing the helper spring. Surely this cant be right. Ive taken the springs off the damper and tried to pull the shaft out to see if the damper can be lengthened, but as far as i can tell its fully extended. Can anyone tell me the fully extended length of the damper? I want to run the car as high as possible on these shocks, so i think im right in thinking the rings need to be at the top of the damper body. Any information on this would be great as all the literature that came with it is in German :( Cheers Rob

Ive got the same problem with my throttle pedal, drives me insane. Tried greasing the pivots but it hasnt helped.

Hi guys Want to lower my corrado so ive been thinking about FK highsport coilovers. Whats the general opinion on these? Also what other parts do i need to replace at the same time? Top mounts, top mount bearings? any suggestions would be appreciated Rob

Thats weird, seems i only got part of this thread when i first clicked on it, my post seems kinda useless now. And how come it says posted at 9:13, its 22:20, strange

The G60 doesnt have a oil cooler as standard, it had a water-oil heat exchanger. If he's removed this then it should run a lot cooler if anything, I know mine does. Water temps rise quickly to about 90-100 when stationary but once moving it plummets to just over 70. I thought lower resistance on the co pot richened the mixture? As for a remedy I dont really know, seems like you've already replaced everything.
