Does anyone else have any advice/tips, like what sensors etc would be best changed to save more work later on? Every input/reply greatly appreciated folks!!!

Ravi, cheers mate! TBH i don't know THAT much about VW engines, as vxl is my domain too (2.0 redtops are far more familiar to me and i have an x25xev in my vectra) but i know what you mean. I was going to do the oil and water pumps as i think the water one may be the source of my water leak but as the bottom end isn't knocking i didn't know wether to touch it? As before, really appreciate all the advice. Although i don't feel 100% confident bolting it all back together properly, esp timing it all up. Steve.

Right, the time has come to start thinking about rebuilding my 1.8 16v KR series engine as she's now at 155k miles and although i have no problems to speak of, there is a definate oil leak just above the gearbox and it uses a little more water than it should (headgasket not gone though). What i'd like to know is A) what sort of parts do you recommend changing/upgrading whilst the engine is out/apart (will do the clutch, headgasket, cam belt, sump seal and rocker seal), will also get the head skimmed and rebuilt. B) Does anybody know anyone who can do this at a reasonable cost with good reputation, and finally C) what sort of money am i looking at? I know its lots of questions but any help greatly appreciated!!

Nice one Herisites!! You lot sure know your stuff, really useful too. :D

I actually think it looks good...but could be improved hugely if say, they found some scrap metal from somewhere and fashioned a low, sloping roof out of it, and welded it on....!

I have heard though that if you swap to a 50mm inlet, although the BHP goes up, mid range torque goes down, is this true, and are they worth getting?

You can prob get a thatcham approved immobiliser for £150 which is up to date and guaranteed, is it worth the bother? Or are you thinking a tea leaf may not know what it is or how to get around it being rare? My laserline alarm fob has broken and i've been told its easier to just replace the whole thing as they are now defunct!

Very nice looking car mate, looks very clean and original!! -
If you take out a years insurance here in the UK, some companies will refund 100% of your money back if you cancel within 14 days (some charge an 'admin' fee) and haven't had an accident. Any time after this and thay give you a percentage back. If that helps ???????

OMFG!!! Take one set of £1900 VXR alloys and paint a red stripe by hand...what a tw*t!!! He needs publicly shooting!

Cheers M15 VW. I didn't think it would fetch £200 tbh as its an auto box so would be well happy with £400!!

When and where is that mate? Will check out the events now...

I have just acquired my aunts old VW golf mk2 CL to sell as it's not been used since my uncle passed away (2 years ago) and she doesn't drive. Its a 1988 F reg mk2 5 door golf, 1595cc (55kw) with an E2 engine (Auto box) but has ONLY 50'700 GENUINE miles since new with all old MOT's etc!! I've looked it over and its solid underneath, no rust anywhere, never been front or rear ended and below front bumper is 100% rot free as are the arches - probably still has original brake disks? The interior is really good, no wear, with the original radio and manuals. I'm going to MOT it, and think it'll pass but will do any work required. The body work is not mint, there are a few scratches, but no rust and little oxidisation as its (tornado?) red LY3D. Was thinking about £400 ish with new MOT, is this realistic being an auto even with such low miles???? Will post pics later if anyone is interested??

In fact, i think i've got a bottle with a small amount in, PM me your address and i'll send you it free to test on a hidden area to see if you like it, if you want.

Simple solutions do a product called 'one up' which can be used either neat or diluted for all interior cleaning - i do seats and dashs' with it. Spray on neat and you can see it lifting cig tar stains straight off (also removes the white print off your indicator stalks if not careful)! This will defo get the results you are after, i get mine from a car paint and panel wholesalers - let me know if you want me to get some and post it to you.
