Sounds like it's time to replace the dizzy and rotor arm to me... (if the 2.0 16v has them!)
-
The differences between the two engines pretty much comes down to late cars have: coil pack instead of distributor[/*:m:1fd76] ECU-based immobiliser system[/*:m:1fd76] hot film MAF instead of hot wire MAF (? not sure on this one ?)[/*:m:1fd76] some minor wiring loom differences (such as the OBD2 diags connector and the MAF sensor plug)[/*:m:1fd76] So there's not a lot in it. Both have the ability to do spark timing per-cylinder, to some extent.

Also worth running an error code scan, if you've not done so already...

The VR got the "plus" suspension off the mk3 GTis due to the extra torque, iirc, and the slightly wider track gives them more room for the engine and exhaust. Maybe the five stud hubs were developed to accomodate larger drive shafts?
-
(And yes, I think the Bora always got better write-ups than the Golf for suspension - plus they're better value.)
-
I vote for "jimsCAR". No more changes, no more hassle ... :)
-
That is different. Somehow.. Can't remember the legalities of it, but I think a notice has to be served on the vehicle. I read it in the press... Or maybe it's more about CCTV evidence alone not being sufficient? Dunno. I was told these tickets aren't legal unless there was a person out there serving tickets.

In fact, I sold a pair of VR6 rear dampers to a guy for his 2.0 16v around a year back. He was fitting the full set of gas dampers and he never reported any problems.
-
bouncy AND stiff? make yer mind up! ;) the back end of a VR6 weighs exactly the same the back end of a 2.0 16v (apart from a single extra wheel bolt either side..), and according to the factory the only difference between the two dampers is the presence of gas in the VR6 ones. I asked. The gas under pressure means that the oil doesn't "boil" under heavy use, and they maintain their damping control longer under load. Put new bump stops on, though, and it'll feel like a different car!
-
It would probably be fine. How much worse can it be than knackered ones??
-
Gearing is the key to mpg at motorway speeds. Keep the revs down with a massive final drive ratio and you'll get better economy, as long as you're not expecting performance...
-
They're about the same, but they are oil/gas hybrids. The 16v had standard oil-only dampers, iirc.
-
Hardly seems worth all the trouble of installing a new engine with all that wiring and crap if you're just going to do the 2.8 24v. Go the whole way, get an R32.. :)
-
That's actually true - they have to notify you at the time, that's why the tickets aren't legal. But you will have to have the balls to refuse to pay and contest the charge, which is why most people just pay up without asking..
-
Not wishing to sound disbelieving, but which part of the basic settings bit is required? My VR has been reset without performing any post-reset configuration of the ECU many times (due to flat batteries or other work on the car) and has never shown this problem. The Corrado VR6 has no electronically controlled throttle valve, so I assume you're talking about the ISV adaptation values?

End of an era? Heh. I'm tempted to buy it myself, just due to that engine (now with VSR *slaver*), but I know I can't justify having a really NICE C till I'm living somewhere with a garage, or even at least a driveway... -
The cut-outs tend to be dependant on the revs the engine drops from when you dip the clutch, not the actual speed you're doing. That said, no-one's ever figured out a definitive answer to this problem. First port of call should be VAG-COM, though. If you ain't scanned it, we have no suggestions..
-
Can you e.g. bolt an R32 engine straight up to a standard VR6 gearbox and engine mounts? If so it's "just" a case of getting the R32 wiring loom in and putting the clocks in the dash... Damn, sounds easy huh? ;)

Reading's lot are brilliant. There's a stretch just outside the train station that's a shared entrance road between the train station short-stay car park (free for up to 30 minutes) and some huge office complex. People habitually do drop-offs on this stretch of road, and the office complex decided to employ some paid-by-the-ticket company to "police" it. They set up a camera there, and pretty much sit there making a note of car number plates of anyone who slows down, let alone stops, on that stretch... And in another classic Reading parking beurocracy demonstration, around 2 years ago they completely revamped the parking permit scheme, and the parking regulations actually came in BEFORE the council had got around to printing and issuing all the new permits. HUNDREDS of people got ticketed, despite displaying the old permits (thereby proving entitlement to the new ones). Whole streets got ticketed at a time. No mercy... I have no problem with sensibly applied parking laws for the good of the community as a whole, but anally applied nit-picking laws does no-one any favours. (Such as 75mph speed cameras on motorways, while we're on the subject...) Grrrr...
-
Maybe I'm way off the mark here, but can't you leave the strut bolted to the wheel hub to stop it turning? I've only seen it done once, and I wasn't watching too closely...

Most parking tickets issued (outside london) in 2003: Brighton and Hove 161,194 Birmingham 147,994 Manchester 123,584 Liverpool 114,466 Nottingham 91,816 Reading 61,639 Oxfordshire 60,399 Milton Keynes 56,156 Medway 52,739 Luton 45,928 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4503925.stm I note with interest that Reading issued more parking tickets than OxfordSHIRE!! I have no doubt that Reading's record is vastly improved since these statistics were generated, however, since they have now put the parking wardens duties out to a 3rd party company, who are obviously working to quotas instead of just keeping the streets clear.

thermostat housing and high oil temps- related??
dr_mat replied to matt_corradovr6's topic in Engine Bay
Interesting. Would be more interesting if we could work out if this was a real difference, or a difference in the reporting of the gauge. -
Heh, why should he sell to you at a minor profit when he knows he'll get market value in another ten days off the autotrader? Just cos some people are clueless when they sell their cars doesn't make the traders evil.
-
It's easy to make a few K on Corrados. They're drastically overpriced on the most part, and the sellers who aren't paying attention often don't take advantage of that...
