Phat - should mention that its still very good advice you give about the gearbox ratios if the C and golf are the same as they are long. One thing, I cant understand why the C is that much quicker than the golf however as standard with the same ratios and only 15 brake more. A 200bhp golf should keep up with a Stnd C vr no problem in that case although I never raced one :!:

Mailed Vince at Stealth on this a month ago and he told me the C box has the same final drive as the golf vr and told me to get a g60 box in.

Good choice. One thing the s3 lacks is character & I think it should have had a 280bhp v6 from the box for 28k new with toys. Please tell me your keeping the vr though..... PS. make sure you get the r32 garaged as the theivin bastards were always trying to get the keys to my s3 - even double glazing taken out !

Pookyvr6 - that is the best description of the new VW group high performance cars I have seen  I have owned s3's and I thought they were slightly bland and just crying out for another 100 bhp and much (much, much)better induction sounds as standard - I mean boring engine. Before modified, you are always looking over your shoulder at fast old golfs (etc) and worrying in case they nailed you. Like Ess Three, I bought to mod and personally, unless you go down that route I wouldnt touch one. Also, I thought the s3 felt aloof to drive and you dont always feel whats happening which is where you may find the biggest difference with the golf. Great to own though with much better quality interior than leons & 4mo IMO and personally I think they just look superb. I would miss a v6 now after my vr so go drive em both and see what you think :D

Beleive me phat, after reading many of your posts about this I am very tempted to do just that - you are right, this is a big performance problem which stiffles the car. I am just worried that 3.94 may be too short as its still my daily car (not a racer like your old mk2) and whether I will ever bother with a turbo or S/C if I get this done. Mind you, I may not care about the turbo if the gearing is that short !!

Fitted at stealth I think mine was around £160 odd. Quiet a part throttle but sounds demon on full and I did see some gains with a re-map as its a straight through from the front affair. The g'freind thinks it sounds shite but what does she know................ :)

Stealth have recommeded a g60 final drive in my golf vr to shorten the ratios - mind you the golf's are too long as standard :(

VR6 Induction - BMC vs RamAir vs Turn2 - advice please
mark_vr6 replied to Monoboy's topic in Engine Bay
IMO the BMC type are better than cone due to the fact they take air in from the front instead from around (although you could make a surround). I have a BMC and it is quiet until you put your foot down. It is max power loud but sounds very good on the v6 - better than a loud 4 cyl so I dont mind, & gained a few HP as well. They can be fitted to the C as I have seen them at Stealth Racing. I like it but the gfriend mite not :D -
I might hold you to that!! You are almost making my current favourite (in my mind) project car - 6 spd 4WD Corrado vr with some fettling but I would like the r32 engine inside - pricey option I reckon though.

To say a standard s3 will beat a corrado vr is shite. I have owned 2 s3's and they are disappointing in standard form for ultimate acceleration for what you pay - they are heavy but the short gearing helps the times. A vr will not touch it in the wet (the 4 wheel drive is very good) or from a standing start if you revs the nuts off it but catch it off boost and you can be embarrased. I have to say that the s3 is very impressive but I would end up modding the car for more handling, grunt wheels etc etc so I ended up buying a vr and modding that instead which I prefer for that engine (and its a golf). Each to their own I suppose. Hey Phat, can you put 4mo in my golf please
