  1. Hi all,

I've been away from the forum for a number of years now after selling my last Rado.

At the time, my wife and I (now ex-wife sadly, we even met here on the forum) found we couldn't have children, so opted to adopt a dog (less expensive than kids, so more money for cars). Sadly he wasn't too keen on being in the back of a Rado, and we didn't think it'd be fair dragging him along to meets etc, and trips to the Pod. So, we sold the Rado and bought a Land Rover.

I'm now with someone else, expecting our second child. The current mrs isn't into the Landy and green laning, so I've been considering getting back to the Rado scene, as she's more likely to be persuaded into joining me on that front.

Having come back to the forum, I thought it would be good to find out how my last ride is doing. We sold it to a fellow enthusiast (I think he was already a member here) who had plans for it (thankfully not like the muppet/con man that bought my 1.8 16v.......also a member on here sadly), and I'd love to see how it looks now.

So, if you're the current owner of the Rado in the subject title, please feel free to post some photos on this thread, I miss the car and would love to see it again, even if just a photo or two.

  2. The time has come when I regrettably have to sell my Rado due to a lack of space.

Attached is the link to the eBay listing (apologies if i should post in the ebay section, just figured that as its selling my Rado......)

http://bit.ly/1fwPTfs (copy and paste this to your internet search bar)

Not mentioned in the listing, if we get the asking price, we'll also let you have what spare bits we have. We have the original (OE) rear lights, a couple of pieces of interior plastics (i forget which), and I think the drivers footwell carpet (black).

We actually bought this Rado from GloucesterOx a couple of years ago, so has been with Forum members for some time.

She's a wonderful car to drive, and I really will be sad to see her go. We have very fond memories, as she was our wedding car when we got married last year. So, I will also say this much, if you're intending to break this car, don't even enquire, I will NOT sell her to you!!

  3. I know I'm slightly biased 😉, but a good tyre in the dry is the Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002. Plenty of grip, plenty of stiffness to the sidewalks without sacrificing too much comfort with reasonable wear rate. I've been running a set on my Mondeo, and been really impressed. That said, I am fitting a set of our T001 soon as they're more suited to commuting.

  4. Hey,

I had the exact same thing happen to me a few months ago. Found GSF don't stock them, but got one off a fellow forum member.

I know of a specialist VW breaker fairly locally, if you have no joy here, let me know and I'll see if I can get his number for you.

  5. bridgestones are available once again in that size from event tires online, who fit at your home or work, in the flavour of RE002 & around £90ea

finally no more avon or similar ****e!!! & the service i had from the event fitter was superb & took less than 20 mins for 2 tires :D

I'm yet to try the Adrenaline RE002, but one of our sales guys was trying them out as a test. He said they're great in the dry, but a little skittish in the colder wet weather. He's had them on about 6-8 months and still around 5mm of tread left. He does around 30k miles a year in a new Passat.

If anyone tries them on their Rado before I do, please let me know what they're like 😉, lol.

  6. Typical my Rado is in Stratford almost everyday and not one spot as yet!! Lol

No way, I've lived in the Stratford area for years, current one us my third. What colour is yours, I'll keep an eye out. Mines a midnight blue 16v.

There's also a red Rado regular parked outside topps tiles near currys.

  7. Oh and grim nice to see you active, take it whilst MSUK is down we don't have much to do ahaha

Alright dude, lol, I didn't realise MSUK was down. Not been on there for a while. Would've been on here a bit more but tapatalk keeps playing up on me (although working fine now).

  8. I'm on my third Rado now, and they've all been valvers.

My last one was a 1.8 16v, and as a daily was a cracking car. Reliable, not too thirsty if driven economically, and still pretty quick.

I personally found it fine around town, just a case of using the right gear, it's all down to how you drive.

Ride height, not a problem, the 1.8 16v as standard is no lower than any other standard Rado, well, not in my experience anyway.

  9. All season tyres are great in the wet, and even in light snow. I had our A001 (Bridgestone) on our daily (Mondeo). When we had the snow in Jan/Feb, easily doing 40mph with plenty of grip when other cars were doing 20. They last well too.

The only thing, all weather tyres are good all rounders and will out perform summer tyres in the wet and cold, but when it's warmer, they're not quite as good.

That said, I'm running Bridgestone Turanza ER300 at the moment (on the mondeo), and they're really good.

My advice to everyone, when you start getting to winter, replace your tyres at 3mm.

  10. Mine is reliable, and less hassle than my Mk4 Golf.

I will say, all three i've owned have been reliable. The first, only had an issue with fuelling after running the fuel tank almost dry (my fault), the last one had an oil cooler seal fail, and despite losing nearly all its oil, the engine still pulled like a train and sounded fine (and that was at around 172000 miles), then the cam belt snapped (which resulted in someone buying it to break). This one has been very reliable, apart from the radiator having a major leak, but I've managed to source a replacement.

  11. I must admit, it's not so much i'm falling out of love with my Rado, but i am considering selling and replacing with an Audi TT Quattro, either 1.8T (225bhp) or the 3.2 V6.

What gets me down, is knowing there will always be something that needs doing, yet parts availability isn't great. Also, whilst there are some good honest people here selling parts at a reasonable price, there also some real con men on here too (my last C went to one and he was describing parts as in good nick, when in fact, some of those parts weren't as described).

But every time i get in and take it for a drive, i love every minute and have a massive grin, and i know, that if i do sell, it won't be long before i'm searching the classifieds and ebay for another.

  12. Dude, I'd say keep it and do what you suggested. In years to come, it will be a real classic and you'll be pleased you'd taken the time to make it perfect, with the bonus that you'd done all that work yourself.

We're considering eventually trading ours in, but we always think of reasons we should keep it. We've even thought about storing and restoring too.

You've already got a very nice VR, why get rid when one day you'll only want another.
