  1. Hi guys

    Got a real issue with my PAS

    I fill it up, run the car with no issues with steering, park or with the reservoir still full and when I return its leaked all the fluid

    I can't spot the exact source of the leak, somewhere round the back of the gearbox/steering rack

    The drip is coming off the subframe

     

    I'm struggling for why it would be leaking when not under pressure rather than when pressurised 🤔

     

    Any help gratefully received

  2. Hi all, as mentioned in the newbie thread I've got my C back on the road after being garages since 2008, brilliant 👍

     

    Drove it back and when I pulled up had power steering fluid everywhere, reservoir empty, pump not happy.

     

    Have had a look today, one of my gaiters on the steering arm has s split which is the source of the fluid leak.

    My other gaiter is good but when I squeeze it I pump air out of the split on the other side gaiter.

     

    So I'm presuming it's the steering rack seals that have perished and the fluid leaking from there has found its way out of the split - replace steering rack?

     

    Or are the gaiters meant to contain fluid and it's a simple replacement of the gaiter?

     

    Any advice most gratefully appreciated

  3. Finally got my C back on the road after many years garaged and replacing a blown engine, last taxed 2008

    Danny and Simon at AD Autotecknis managed to get it up and running, although with horrific rev fluctuations probably due me putting in s 2.0l Ahf lump instead of the original kr but whatever it needs a 2.0 metering head to sort it. I had it at full chat on the drive back from Gatwick to Reading, was awesome, new suspension new continentals

    So, arrive back, park up, power steering fluid everywhere

    You gotta love Corrado's

    Even if it is momentarily 🤔


  4. Hello all, finally getting my C back on the road after 8 years gathering dust in the garage, all progressing well, obviously costing me a small fortune but thought I'd rather spend a few grand on my beloved than buy some other car anyway hello again

    My question is, my 17" rims rub the interior wheel arch, 205 R17 40 tyres on, need some spacers, want then to run flush with the wings and not stick out but need enough clearance to prevent tyre rub

    To save me going through ordering fitting and finding out the long way that I've gone too big too short what size spacers should I get?

    Was thinking 40mm?

    Any help gratefully received

  5. My days of thrashing the C round the track are long gone, just wanna get her looking nice so don't really care about 100's of a second on a lap time. It's been handling really well with the 17's on, just get the rubbing on all arches - but yes you do lose a bit of torque, now counteracted by putting in bigger lump :)

     

    Just after advice on what suspension people are running with 17"s on . . . cheers

    Buy buing an off the shelf kit such as a JOM I should be able to set up the ride height so i don't bottom out at the back, can I add some 80mm spacers to prevent rubbing inside the front arches???

  6. After finishing the new engine instalation i've managed to save up a few quid and now need to change all my springs and shocks . . .

     

    When I bought the car it had 15" rims on it, i've had 17"'s on it but the wheels rubbed the inside of the arches at the front and bottomed out in the rear wheel arches - now after sitting on the driveway for 3 years one corner is sitting on the deck so it's about time I sorted it out properly.

     

    Can anyone recommend a good set up for running 17" rims on a 1991 16v, happy for it to sit low without bottoming out ;)

     

    If anyone has a 2nd hand set for sale let me know

  7. It's been a while since I posted, have had so many other commitments that the re-build has been somewhat delayed . . .

     

    Update so far, completed engine project but noticed small damage on the cam belt so am now replacing that before re-instalation of the engine. Was the tiniest chink of a notch taken out but really couldn't put the block back in knowing it was there and much easier to replace while the engine is sitting on my garage floor.

     

    Managed to get a replacement driveshaft from a Golf at the breakers down the road, £20 so not beating myself up too much over bending the flange on the last one :mad2:

     

    Now have to save up a few quid for new fluids and hoist hire and we are good to go, hopefully 8)


  8. It could well be the cables. Worth checking they're still attached by getting the fan speed/direction controls out. Also check the cables are still attached behind the dash.

     

    Thanks for the heads up, sounds about right so will have a look, gonna try and get it working before I put the engine back in just in case the heater unit needs replacing 8)


  9. Have had a real problem getting the air flow directed onto my windscreen from my heater blower - all other directions work fine

     

    I'm wondering if anyone else had this problem?? i'm asking now cos the engine is out of the car and I have good access to the bulkhead that all the heater stuff bolts onto. Is it just a cable wearing through something ?

     

    Any help greatfully received :help:


  10. Thanks guys, i'm really enjoying doing the conversion - luckily I have a nice garage (with beer fridge!) and spare hours in the late afternoon/evenings. It's fascinating to see what's what in the engine, and as i'm planning to keep my C running till i'm old and grey it's a crash course in engine mechanics that will serve me well in the future.

     

    It also helps that it's 20 year old technology and all you need is a decent socket set :grin:


  11. OK, so have to change the bottom pulley on the new golf lump - have had to change pretty much everything to revert the new block back to being a newer KR with larger capacity. All the anciliaries bolt on fine btw, wanted to do this so I can connect up my wiring loom as is rather than have to mess about rewiring bits and peices - most of it is the same, just sensors in different places etc.

    Am going to give it a go tonight, all I need to know is where do you get the 2 pronged tool for re-tensioning the cam belt and how tight does the belt have to be when I put it back together ??? :help:


  12. So what was the cause of the bottom end letting go?,

    And in what relation was having the top end fixed related to the bottom end failing?.

    Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

     

    Bottom end letting go was because of D Thompson & Sons, Ryebrook Road, Leatherhead Surrey making a complete balls up of repairing the head gasket - never ran well and blew after 60 miles, make a note of the name and never use them ever. Am pretty sure the timing was never set correctly as I have the spark plug that came out of cylinder 4 and the end has been smashed which suggests that valve has met piston at some point - the car wouldn't start propperly and was really underpowered. They completely washed their hands of it and tbh if I wound myself up about it I would have ended up in trouble for causing grevious bodily harm so I filed a report with trading standards and walked away with dented pride and pockets . . .
