front suspension

Recommended Posts

have just put some spax shocks & springs on a 1995 vr6. i have a problem being that both the front wheels are on a angle pointing in ( towards the engine ) thought it may just be the tracking? been 2 loads of places, and have been told they cant do it due 2 shims of some sort? what are they talking about? and how do i get my car 2 steer propely, and get it sorted? this is really doing my bloody head in :(

it'll be the camber!

the have to undo the 3 bolts on the ball joint and play around with it there...straighted it up and re tighten the bolts...

take it to a body shop or just to VW as they have the correct equipment to check it all

i paid £70 at a body shop for wheel allignment..i think VW wanted £90

Too much negative camber.

VR6s have their wheels pointing into the arches (at the top) anyway, to the tune of -.1.2 degrees, sounds like yours is running about 3 degrees negative. A pic would help....

Any bodyshop can realign the front suspension.

hard to tell from that pic...was it taken on a phone

if you have chaged the springs from standard you should ALWAYS get the wheels aligned properly again anyway.

out of interest...are they the 16" from a golf 4 motion?

Yeah they are poking in too much......especially when you look at the angle of the rears for comparison! The fronts and rears are almost the same camber wise as standard.

no not a camera phone just a really shite digital camera? yeh the wheels are of a mk4 v6 4motion, at the moment nobody will align the wheels due 2 the camber being so bad, so gotta get that done first. out comes the yellow pages :(

Yeah they look good actually. I like the way your car is buried in bushes and trees..... it almost looks cosy in it's litter tray there

yeh it is cosy in the corner of my garden. its hidden from view of all chavs, and theiving bastards. and a 7 series gets parked right behind it every night. tyre size is 205/45. :)

Do you not find the gravel from your garden gets stuck in the tyre treads, giving a nice "tick tick tick" as you drive on tarmac? Does my head in that does!!

true but!, havent had 2 mow the garden for about 4 years, and when it pisses down the garden isnt turned into a mud pit, the biggest downfall is though, when you drop a nut/bolt on the gravel you can never find it!!! :)
