Henny 0 Posted October 14, 2004 oooh, this should be interesting when it's done... 8) 1.9T P&P 16V with LSD... mmmmm... 8) It all depends on which turbo you are running, but I seem to remember that the Turbo Technics conversions run at around 220BHP... I could be a mile out with that though... best person to ask is Kev, as he used to have a TT Golf... 8)
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 id like to think 200+ most 2L turbos are around 200bhp std so a Turbo Technics one should be good if its a hybrid etc :)
Adam Darby 0 Posted October 14, 2004 cheers the car goes into stelth on nov 8th he said it shuld take about 2 to 3 weeks then its going straight to the paint shop for a full respray which he tells me will take a maximum of 3 weeks

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 14, 2004 The original TT kit produced in the 80s delivered 190bhp, using the cold start injector as a crude extra fuelling method. 190 brake and matching torque from an 80s 1800 engine was awesome. Only 20 odd brake shy of Cosworths 2.0 16V Turbo, which had better management and fuelling. Anyway, Stealth took the kit and revamped it in the late 90s, giving it the much needed fuelling improvements. They custom made a fuel rail with 4 VR6 injectors to run alongside the standard K jet injectors, the former controlled by K Star and a MAP sensor. Stealth's setup delivers anywhere from 210-220 bhp and is a much smoother and punchier engine than the TT original. With a capacity increase and water/methanol injection + decent front mount cooler, I reckon you're on your way to 250+. My old Golf TT has recently had a front mount cooler and a Garrett T3 hybrid fitted and it now kicks out over 260bhp...in 1800 form - the same one Stealth built 5 years ago
Adam Darby 0 Posted October 14, 2004 cheers sound good cant wait to get t all done is there any other tips that u can suggest while it is in for all the work
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 what are you using to set the boost?
Adam Darby 0 Posted October 14, 2004 Ive not got a clue i dont think it has an adjustable boost valve on it its set but i dont no what psi i kicks out
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 an electronic controller could be a good option. not only can you set the boost but you can set the sharpness which will make the boost come on harder and stronger. makes for a very interesting drive :D
Adam Darby 0 Posted October 14, 2004 do you no how much i shud ad on to the budget in order to do it?????????????????
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 100-200 for a second hand controller - loads of options (greddy, apexi, hks etc) so see what the guys at stealth reckon :)

cheesy 0 Posted October 14, 2004 It'll be good to see this I've just bought the turbo technics kit to go on mine with the 8 injector set-up I've got a quote for a rebuilt bored engine with forged pistons and rods, gas flowed head etc. Just sorting funds then the fun wil begin chris
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 14, 2004 Ive not got a clue i dont think it has an adjustable boost valve on it its set but i dont no what psi i kicks out If it's the original Garrett T25 based kit, then it will have selectable High and low boost. 0.9 bar (10.5psi) and 0.7 bar (8.5psi) respectively. You should have a switch on the dash somewhere.....if not, Vince will sort something out.
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 10psi - b0ll0x to that ;) get it up over a bar at least :D
rmn 0 Posted October 14, 2004 the kit cheesy has now gave 220-250bhp in a 2.1 16v mk2 golf depending on the day you wont be disapointed
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 14, 2004 10psi - b0ll0x to that ;) get it up over a bar at least :D Have you seen the size of the T25 turbine? It's only good for 1 bar maximum. 10.5psi was set on the valver conversion for reliability. More boost = more lag..... I prefer the less boost and more drivability. rmn 0 Posted October 14, 2004 yeah those cars are damn quick i would have to agree with kev on this one they are a small package but they do deliver, Pablo i am sure you have probably seen the car that cheesy got the kit from, it is owned by a lad from dundalk Damn quick car, and its getting quicker
pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 my rover turbo had a T25 hybrid and ran at 18psi all day long. was MIGHTY fast! how does more boost = more lag? using a bigger turbo to create more boost will surely give more lag but simply raising the boost limit shouldnt Id have thought. aposegil 0 Posted October 14, 2004 personally i would drop the TT manifold and T5 and get yourself a T3 hybrid with the works ;) ;) with a ATP manfiold Also instead of going to 1.9 get urself some original Audi quattro forge pistons which are more than capable to handle 600+ bhp and with the rest of money u save from reconing the turbo etc get urself a standalone of G60 system and remap it to ur engine just my 2p's
CoxyLaad 0 Posted October 14, 2004 lag is defined as the time taken for the turbo to spin up and produce its full spread of power, so if you have the boost wound up it will take longer to achieve that full boost, hence more lag. yeah?

pablo_vr6 0 Posted October 14, 2004 in that case its not such a bad thing as you are going higher anyway so no problem. after X seconds you are still at the same boost but with more to come :D
aposegil 0 Posted October 14, 2004 ok lag is determind by how much u need to get the turbo to boost. If turn the boost right up u tend to have less lag as the boost feed wont be able to open the waste gate so quickly so no exhuast gases escape out of the wastegate making the turbo spin quicker and faster. if its turned right down the waste gate will open alot quicker so u will have more lag due to exhuast gases escaping out of the waste gate and need more gases to get the turbo to spin up.
