Aux Water PP on VR6

Recommended Posts

Looks like my aux water pp on the VR's not working, put 12v across it direct from battery and nothing happened. Theres acct through the motor but the resistance seems a bit high to me for a motor, at around 800 ohms.

To make matters worse its possibly been leaking since the electrical plug looked in a poor state, I've cleaned it up and checked it, but its still got a short across its terminals.

I had been loosing coolant, but thought it was just from the Rad switch which was definitely leaking. (Just replaced it and hence the test on the water pp!).

Has any one got a cheap supplier of these pumps and where is the best place to get a replacement plug connection for it.

Thanks in advance.

You could try the Ford dealer although it's fairly cheap from VW these days (think it's about £60 but used to be £120). A Bosch dealer might do an exchange pump too.

I got an Aux water pump from my local VW specialist who are a Bosch dealer. It was about £70 odd quid- and he said they have actually gone up £10 in the last three months or so :(

When I got the new pump fitted I wanted to be sure it was working- if you turn the ignition on but don't fire it up then its very easy to hear whether the pump is actually working or not. I don't think they run very fast though so you have to get close to it.

Cheers for the advice, just hope the local stealer can get it right, I've been waiting over a month for some stuff already  , I think I'll give fords a try too :o .

I think I'll try a scrappy for the plug, it,ll be easier to replace I'd imagine.

Cheers guys
