WATER WARNING LIGHT

Recommended Posts

on my 1.8 16V C,the warning light for the water temp/level keeps coming on.i checked the level it was fine and checked the fan its working fine too. i drained the water out today and flushed it to cleen all the gunk out.put some anti freeze in and added water again to the mark.i went for a wee spin the light popped on again,iv put it down to the water not being filled back up again to the right level, obviously i will keep topping it up after the next few journeys till its at the mark permanently.just wondering if anyone has had problems with the sensor?the water temp is fine and engine isnt over heating.

Yep i had this problem, i think if i remember its a fault with the expansion tank itself.

But then a couple of months down the road my head gasket went  :x and it was on all the time didn't matter how full the bottle was, it would still flash

presumably the oil & water mixing caused by the head gasket failure upset the sensor in the expansion tank? Oilly Mayo gunk on it kept the light on???

Yep, my 16v very occassionally shows the light. Everything is OK with levels (water & oil & doesn't lose any), temps etc and no running problems. I think it's just the switch in the bottle playing up intermittently. Had vag check it out one time & they gave it a clean bill of health so I don't worry about it.
