Just been to Bedrock, first VR bill coming up :(

Recommended Posts

Had my car getting a check over at Bedrock today, the guys there are very helpful and they found a few things that need doing.

Throttle cable - I knew about this one, about £50-£60 fitted we reckon, he wasnt sure on price as hes never done one on a VR before.

Front engine mount - Gonnae get a Vibratechnics, £125+vat+fitting.

Rear Gearbox mount - Standard, £65+vat+fitting.

Rear Axle Bushes - Powerflex fitted for £180+vat.

Front top mounts - About £25 each+vat+fitting.

The brake fluid could do with a change as well but im gonnae leave that for another 2000miles till the service is due.

So im looking at at least a £500 bill, im not bothered as I bought a cheaper, higher mileage car than I was originally looking for, im just wanting to know if the above prices sound about right which I think they do.

Personally, I'd try to do as much of it as possible yourself. The weather's nice afterall!

Things like throttle cable and top mounts should be easy enough.

I think the gearbox mount can be a bit of a pain but the front one is not too bad a job to do.

Try and save as much as possible and then you have more cash to spend on it :)

Im very tempted to give a few of the things a go but usually when I try that sort of thing I hit a problem and make things worse and I dont have all the tools I would need, besides, we seem to be missing out on most of this good weather in Glasgow.

Got the car back today with everything done, it all came to £685

Worth it though, I cant believe the difference an accelerator cable makes. Can also feel that the back end isnt skipping about anymore in the corners and the engine movement isnt noticable at all anymore. I havent even noticed anymore vibration in the car. :D

Back next month for a service, brakefluid change and think im gonnae get the front bushes changed for poly ones as well. :?

Told ya the VT front mount was good! They only cause vibration if the engine was producing it excessively in the first place. If the engine is sweet, then no vibration is noticed over stock.
