cold problems

Recommended Posts

Since it has been realy cold I have had a problem with my G60.

When I first start my car in the morning, after a couple of minutes the idle starts to race, 2500 rpm, until the needle starts to move on the temp gauge, then everything goes back to normal! :help:

I know it is nothing to do with the temp gauge that was just a reference.

I have cleaned out the ISV with carb cleaner, could it still be this sticking slightly, would a drop of WD40 help?

Could it be the old Blue temp sender?

Something else? :brickwall:

Thanks,

Antny.

check that the idle switch on the throttle body is:

a) working (test with multimeter for continuity when pressed)

b) Connected to the multiplug

c) pressed by the linkage when the throttle is closed.

If all of these are OK, then try swapping the blue and black temp sender connectors over. It's quite possible that you have a dead blue sender, and if the engine behaves properly with the blue connector onto the black sender, then this'll show you that it's the blue sensor that's dead... 8)

Just so I can do this quick, where are the temp senders on the G60?

Sorry but new the the old geladen.

Would you do this with the battery off, or just ignition off?

the temp senders are on the plastic flange on the front of the head where the top hose to the radiator attaches to the engine. You can swap the connectors with the engine running if you really want to, and that way you'll even see if the sensor was doing anything at all! 8) They're just a thermo-resistor, so there's no danger in swapping 'em about when the engine's running or not running... 8)

Have you set the tickover correctly. Disconnect the blue plug, engine running. Adjust the tickover, rev up a few time or summat, reconnect the plug.

Maybe the tickover screw needs cleaning.

Might be an air leak too?? Try squirting a bit of WD40 around the gaskets and intake pipes. If it revs up a bit it's sucking some WD in and you got a leak.

Gavin
