Heater not working ?????

Recommended Posts

The heater on my C has stopped working. The fans still blow, cold. Under the bonnet the 2 hoses going to/from the heater matrix are hot, and the top/bottom radiator hoses are both hot, so the thermostat is OK. Could it be airlocked ? Or is there something worse ?? It doesn't seem to be loosing water, and there is no coolant smell inside, although misting up is a problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you have bypass valves in the hoses to the matrix?

They fail and stop the heater working.

Could be the flap is stuck in the cold position on the heater box.

it will be that caused by a slipped cog or a sticky/broken bowden cable

I would say an airlocked matrix preventing the water from circulation through it was also a possible cause. Cable problems at the heater box should be obvious if the controls are too stiff or too loose.

take the under dash bins off the nearside locate the flap the bowden cables attach to its a simple mechanism and the cogs can break they are very cheap from vag you just clip a new one in, the bowden cables is just a case of feeding them through the dash and connecting them up.
