Gear Knob Removal

Anyone know how to get the standard gear knob off? i got a new one to go on and cant get the other one to budge its a 1990 1.8 16v. cheers

Mine just unscrewed.

it just unscrews mate, then it comes off complete with the gear surround which you remove by opening the clip on the inside where the gator joins on the gear knob

Sure they are all the same and just twist off. As you are looking at the knob, turn anticlockwise. May be a little stiff. You may need to put a monkey wrench on the shaft as not to damage the union with the gear selectorOh, I take it that it is a manual and not an auto? :)

okay, cool ill try that in a bit then thanx for the quick replys guys, erm will i be able to keep the gear gater ect for my new gear know got myself one of those chrome golf balls off awesome gti.

Ok just tried, it aint budgeing at all, ill try the monkey wrench later, damn its tight.

yeah you can keep the gaitor, once you get the gearknob off youll see the metal clip/ring on the inside of the gearknob that holds the gaitor on

Wont move at all tried the wrench but it wont move at all, any more ideas before i take a hammer to it?
