bighands 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Is this possible? I could do with a second car for getting 2 and from work, to save knocking the arse out of my C everyday, and have been offered low milage diesel, but dont think it would work out worth it if i have to get 2 insurance policys Someone must offer a ploicy to cover 2 cars, if ony one will be driven at any time?? Henny 0 Posted January 20, 2005 yup, you can insure a second car on a single policy with quite a few insurance companies... 8) I'll be doing it shortly on my MKII golf and my Corrado G60 so that I can get rid of the golf. I'll then be insuring J-DUB again when I get the new engine in... ;) 8)
bighands 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Ah result! So will it stay round about the same price, as the corado will be the highest group? My policy runs out next month, so could be good timing! if people know of companys that will do this, can i have names and numbers to save us ringing 100's of em to find out otherwise! Cheers! dubster82 0 Posted January 20, 2005 i always got told this was a no no and im going to have to start another policy to build up a second ncd for when my golf eventually goes on the road. in a couple of years. im very interested in some numbers too!! :)
Henny 0 Posted January 20, 2005 you'd have to call around 'em... I've used HIC and FLUX with 2 cars in the past... IIRC putting my 1.4Astra merit onto my G60 insurance cost me about £200 for the year fully comp. 8)
g60Dazzaman 0 Posted January 20, 2005 This is a bit of a grey area.... I have three cars all insured with the people who: "love to quote you happy!" they are all on separate policies but you get extra discount off your other policy and loadsa of other discounts so: 27 year old man, no points or accidents, 2yrs ncd, mk1 golf gti cab, corrado g60, seat toledo v5 all insured fully comp + business on the seat for £1458 a year! they are also really helpful (call centre in britain!!) i have my house insurance with them aswell and breakdown cover as they offer discounts to existing customers! - which is novel in this day and age!
Guest Posted January 21, 2005 I was in the same situation 2 years ago. Basically, i changed job and had to commute 45 miles to work and back everyday. There was no way i would a) pay out for the fuel, or b) clock up all those miles on my VR6. At the time i was 24 and paying about £840 for the VR with Tesco. After i bought my 2nd car, a Xantia TD which i paid £600 for, i phoned around to try and insure it. Yes, you do need 2 seperate policies, and the second policy has to start from scratch in terms of no claims bonus. Absolute con in my opinion, as it's me who earns the NCD, not the car. And i can only drive one at a time, so how can i be more at risk in the Xantia than in the VR?? Anyway, i was getting silly quotes of well over £1k to insure the Xantia TPFT... I don't think so!! Then i phoned HIC who couldn't do enough for me. Basically, i still had to start my NCD from scratch, but they took into account the fact i had 8yrs on my other policy, so applied the same discount. Because the Xantia was now my daily driver, i put the VR on a limited mileage policy. I ended up paying less to insure both cars with HIC than if i had continued my policy with Tesco for the VR only... Give them a call and see what they can do. corradophil 3 Posted January 21, 2005 HIC would not allow me two cars on one policy. Had to take out a second policy for the Corrado with 0 NCD.
2cc 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Both mine were insured with NU (one fully comp, one tpft), but I recently asked whether I could have em both fully comp and they said yes. And the biggest surprise was it now costs me less than before. Mind you, must bear in mind that I am a greying wrinkly (no, make that distinguished looking)
Henny 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Phil, that's weird, their on hold wotsit actually goes on about how they specialise in second car policies... :|
corradophil 3 Posted January 21, 2005 Phil, that's weird, their on hold wotsit actually goes on about how they specialise in second car policies... :| I know, but when I enquired which was about October last year, they told me they don't do policies which cover more than one car. Luckily I hagled and shopped around quite a bit and paid £220 to insure the C for 3000 miles per year.
Guest Posted January 21, 2005 HIC would not allow me two cars on one policy. Had to take out a second policy for the Corrado with 0 NCD. That's exactly what i had to do, only i insured the VR with my 8 yrs NCD, and started my Xantia policy with 0yrs Steve
dubster82 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Phil, that's weird, their on hold wotsit actually goes on about how they specialise in second car policies... Yeah, i think your misunderatanding it. the specialise in realise you are not at great risk and make it reflect your currnet policy, tho you still have to start from scratch, they can give you mega discount. Handy im with HIC at the mo. ill have to phone em soon :)
corradophil 3 Posted January 21, 2005 That's exactly what i had to do, only i insured the VR with my 8 yrs NCD, and started my Xantia policy with 0yrs Steve My other car is a Seat Leon Cupra, although one of them has to go soon  . The Seat is more expensive to insure than the Corrado so I used my NCD on that. I have 10 NCD by the way.
Henny 0 Posted January 21, 2005 nope, when I did it I got my no-claims mirrored so that I got FULL NCD (protected) on BOTH cars (Corrado G60 and Astra1.4, and then Corrado G60 and MKII Golf 1.8 driver) I'm pretty sure it added about £200 on for the astra and £275 for the Golf... :|
HiAsAKite 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Admiral gave me 6 years NCB when I came to insure my Golf with them under a separate policy, even though my VR (insured with them) only had 5 years NCB on it... Net result £850 to insure a VR6 C and Mk2 GTi with protected NCB
