matt_corradovr6 0 Posted February 21, 2005 for my 94 100k vr6 what is the reccomended oil. quantrum silver semi 15-40 or a fully synth ( i have been told to use fuchs titan 5w-40) i am a little unsure as i don't want to fuchs (ahem) my engine if u know what i mean. i want to drop the oil out this weekend as my oil temps are at 120! don't know why. could this be down to the wrong type of oil, wrong viscosity for the mileage or the garage not changing the oil when i asked them?? Supercharged 2 Posted February 21, 2005 Use Silver syntha semi (10W-40) from VAG or GSF.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 21, 2005 VR engines like a good Fuch....preferably with 10 or 15/40 at that age though.
gradeAfailure 0 Posted February 21, 2005 I thought it was always better to use fully synthetic - I am on my 145k 2.0 8V - is that not correct?
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted February 21, 2005 cool what fuch is it exactly?? semi? is there a specific brand name for it like castrol has gtx etc
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 21, 2005 Depends what brand and viscosity, some synths are like water and 80s VW engines don't have tight enough tolerances to contain it. A fully synth 10 or 15/40 should be OK. My preference would be Mobil 1 15/50W Motorsport. My old Golf 16V never used to burn a drop of that but I can't be doing with putting 6 litres of that in my VR every 6000 miles at £60 a time!
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted February 21, 2005 so a fully synth 10/40 fuchs. is it fuchs titan? will that bring down oil temps? ne idea where i can purchase a few litres?
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted February 21, 2005 can't find anything but 5w/40 fully synth fuchs??
