Timing Issues

Hello, Ive replaced the head on the yellow corrado 16v and have come across a slight problem, its all back together but it doesnt work.

As far as I can see it is all timed correctly, cylinder 1+4 at the top of the bored and timing mark on pulley and fly wheel at tdc. The mark on the cam is also pointing at the correct mark. And both of the little circles on the cams are pointing at each other.

Now to my mind that means its all timed correctly. BUT it still wont work, so Im probably being really dense and its obvious but its cold outside and ive had enough, so this is a call for HELP!

What does the engine do?

 

Have you got the plug leads on in the correct order?

Does it turn over OK on the starter?

Is there a spark at all? (remove a plug and put it into the plug lead with it resting on the inlet manifold, turn over the engine on the starter watching for a spark)

Have you set the timing on the distributor?

Do you have fuel coming in?

is the mark on the camshaft pulley on the inside or outside,or have you not had it off so to speak?

there is a mark on the top of the cam shaft pulley and also a mark on each of the cams inside the head that point at each other when the mark on the pully is pointing straight up

So, you have fuel, spark and compression... the only things that can be wrong are that you either have not enough air getting in (blocked air flap or flooding?) or the timing's wrong....

 

erm.... did you remember to put the tappets back in?!? :? ;)

lol yup tappets are in everything in the head is working well, umm air I shall go and investigate, failing that anyone want a nuggest yellow 16v?

Is it making any signs of life at all? A big airleak, like not putting the servo vac pipe on will stop the engine running. They do run for a couple of seconds and die because of the fuel from the cold start injector.

 

You are counting the cylinders from the timing belt end when putting the plug leads on?

 

Try having someone turn it over whilst lifting the flap in the metering head slowly. Maybe the fuel pipes are airlocked?

 

In a similar way try swinging the dissy while cranking it.

done all that and now found the problem, since doing a compression test the valves have decided to all stick, randomly
