G60 MFA diagnostics

Recommended Posts

Having used the instructions on the SNS website i carried out the MFA diagnostic test on my car.

Firstly at idle it was between 470 and 510, indicating too much timing advance apparently.

Secondly i got a max of 1600 which is not good for a 68mm pulleyed charger. SNS suggests that its either a large boost leak or needs new apex strips. Seeing that the idle figure is not higher would suggest my charger is knackered.

Lucky i got the charger off the other car to go on. I would guess that the sooner i can swap it over the better.

One question though, can i bring the reduce the timing myself or is it related to the ECU?

You might like to re-word the question - not sure what you mean.

Hmmm, not good - I was seeing 2000+ on my Stage 4 charger and 68mm pulley

You can retard the timing by moving the dizzy but it sounds like you'd be best to get it checked out and setuop by someoe like Gwerks

Lol yeah, spastic English!!

What i meant was is it likely that advanced timing is related to ECU management, ie, from information coming from senders such as water temp, Lambda probe and boost pipe probe (perhaps indicating a faulty sensor). Or can it be retarded on the dizzy as Supercharged suggested.

Anyhow, first port of call is going to be get my Jabba stage 4 charger on there when the RSR kit arrives hopfully this week.

Then, as everyone has been suggesting, get it set up by a specialist.

ECU only retards the timing in relation to the mechanical setting...

If your timing is too far advanced, it will need retarding by adjusting the distributor.

Best thing to do is to manually set the timing to 6 degrees BTDC & leave it like that until you can get the car set up properly
