Pully removal

Recommended Posts

I don't suppose that anyone has the Official Factory Repair Manual for Corrados? if they have could they please scan the section on removing the pulleys and cam belt etc.

If not does anyone know how to stop the pullys from turning when i try to remove the allen key headed bolts? (the pulleys in front of the cam belt sprocket) cheers Phil (mailto:[email protected])

I find using a hex head in a socket wrench plus a sharp blow with a hammer is enough to free them off. The resultant 'shock' releases them like an impact driver and providing the Hulk hasn't done them up, they should free off. Make sure the hex head is well and truly in the bolt otherwise you'll round them off very easily.

If you wrap a old vee belt around the pulley to protect the multi vee's and use a 'chain whip', such as one you would use to remove a oil filter to lock out the pulley while undoing the 17mm bolt.

I always loosen the pulley bolts BEFORE taking the belt off. I also put loads of tension on it too, temporarily.
