power steering rack

Hi still in desperate need of a power steering rack for 1.8 16v. Its a G plate. Does any one know if this will fit?

they found 2 sets of numbers on the rack but they are not very clear. They look like 1H2 422 081 A and 145 J27 1A 178.

That's the rack off a Mk3 GTi, so it's a different rack than yours (in fact it's the same as a VR6 rack). Now - it may fit, in fact all evidence in the other big steering rack suggests it will, but it's not identical to yours.

with yours being such an early car, if I've read that thread on steering racks I started correctly, then it'll have a different number of splines on the steering rack -> column shaft... IMHO you'd be better off trying to get a late MKII 16V Golf one, it's almost certainly gonna be the same as the one on your car now... 8)
