surfer.vr6 0 Posted June 10, 2005 i am really peed off i have just spent a grand replacing the timing chains ,clutch had the head skimmed. when i picked it up i have a really noisy tappet on the l/h front of the head. am i better off putting a thinner oil like 0 40 or a thicker one like 15 40 to help quiet it down dont really want to spend more money to get the tappets replaced
dr_mat 0 Posted June 10, 2005 15w40 is better. Or get the tappets replaced under warranty..
Guest Posted June 11, 2005 Know how you feel mate. I rebuilt the head on my VR, and replaced all 12 tappets with brand new genunie VAG items. All was ok, until i did an oil change. Just before i had my car serviced by my local specialists last month, i did an oil change, using some cheap oil (10w40), and ran some engine flush through before i did the change. The week leading up to the service, it seemed to have worked, but after i picked the car up, the tapping re-appeared... Nothing more annoying than driving with the window down, hearing the sound of tapping and thinking, 'is that coming from my car?'
