Ollienorth 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Hi all. About to undertake changing my timing chain and tensioners so been looking at the parts I need. I read this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2020549 Which says there are two types of timing chain and to find out which one you have you just need to look at the engine number. The number they quote AAA 0217 000 with the difference occouring above or below this number. I had a look last night and my engine number is ABV 0007 369 which doesnt really fall into either catagory. Can anyone help?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 28, 2005 ABV is Euro VR6 only and 2.9. AAA is 2.8 and some of them had simplex upper cam chains (single row). All ABV have duplex upper chain (double row). I recommend you use the MK4 upper tensioner pad and bolt too. Try a search for the part numbers.
