16vgt 0 Posted July 16, 2003 mates picked up a 1,8 16v which has just had a engine rebuild a few months ago. the engine seems sound- starts 1st time, doesnt smoke at all, doesnt burn excessive oil or anything, idles ok... but it lacks serious serious power. he has had the ignition timing looked at which seemed to be fine. the car revs as normal- to redline even but the powers not there and the revs sometimes seem to 'float' back down to idle unlike my C which drops normally. any ideas?? could it be the cams or the cam timing? Fine wine, Belgian chocs. 1 Posted July 16, 2003 My old valver had the floating revs problem. It was a tube broken off the over run cut off valve. Cost me a fiver for a replacement from a scrappy. The overall poor performance could be down to the timing being adjusted too much for unleaded fuel. I had that problem too.
