Bad fueling

Recommended Posts

The car runs fine and has been checked by a good mechanic. However, the car gives around 35 miles per tenner. I may be ragged it a few tmes, but not all the time. Now I am not sure why this happens.

Any ideas?

Blue sensors are fine.

The lambda sensor is ok too.

Co pot sensor is fine.

The wheel bearings were done recently. Dont know if thats causing a problem. I did notice that the front wheels did not spin freely when jacked up.

One thing noticed was that the engine breathes heavily, but the compression tests are fine and there's no smoke from the exhaust.

Please help,

Alan

Doesn't sound right! - how much resistance is there??

I assume it's a G60, if so and you suspect the engine, get it to a specialist like G werks for a full setup asap!

PS - you're using a stupid amount of fuel there, are you sure it's not leaking for the small pipe to the fuel rail and then burning off the inlet??

Should be doing twice that nearly. You say the sensors are fine, can you qualify that for us. What did you do to prove them?

G-werks basically had all the sensors checked.

The front wheels have a lot of resistance and would not move freely.

I am getting about 25 mpg. I am suspecting that it is running a jabasport chip. When I get paid, will go back Darren to get the SNS. But for now, I am looking for the wheel bearing to be sorted properly.

35 miles to the tenner, 25mpg  thats some expensive petrol!

But seriously 20mpg for my g60 is good the way I drive it

Thats not that much worse than my Syncro..... Where do you drive? G60s are pants on fuel around town. Try restricting yourself to only using the first choke on the throttle. There are 2 butterflies in the TB. When you get to the end of the first one the pedal gets a bit harder to press.

You can't blame the chip for poor fuel economy. I had a Jabba chip in my Golf and with a std pulley it was better on fuel than with the std chip. Don't spend money on an SNS chip thinking they are miracles. ( Note I have an SNS chip) If there is something fundamentally wrong with the car then replacing a dozen chips won't make it better.

I would try swapping over the plugs on the blue and black temp senders for a while and see what happens. After that the Lambda probe is the next most likely candidate for being broken.

Is there any oil in your gearbox?

I always try to use the first choke, but the car is simply too slow. I am still thinking on the lines of my replaced bearings as they still make screaching noises.

The car used to give 28mpg easily on good drives before, but now it has changed rapidly with no mods at all.

The blue and the black senders were checked by Darren before (3 weeks ago), and they seem fine.

I havent checked the oil in the gearbox, as I dont know where to look for. I am going to call a mechanic and have a look at the cars setup. Its simply making a big hole in my pocket at the moment.

not a sticky rear caliper is it?

edit:or front even? :?

doubt itwould give such crap mpg though?

neil.

There isn't a boost leak is there?

The fronts wheels won't spin that long, they are driving the gears in the gearbox. A back wheel would spin a while.

The gearbox has a drain plug and a fill plug on it. They need big, 17mm, allen keys to undo them. The (granny sucking eggs) drain is the lowest one the fill is the highest one.

Best bet is remove the fill plug and see if any oil comes out. The gearbox should be filled through this plug until the oil starts to run back out of it's own accord.

I don't like the screeching noises bit though. Are you sure this isn't a belt slipping? Is the steering heavy?

Everything has been done, and my car still gives

I am so confused and I use my corrado on a daily drive basis.

Can anyone please point me on any direction please. As far as I know, it could even be the ECU. But not sure yet. All the sensors are working correctly.

i bet its the jabba chip too. mine was over fueling like mad on the jabba chip, but the sns chip was far better on fueling

This may be a stupid thing to say......but if its dissipating 10mpg's worth of energy then somethings getting hot....thats a lot of power wasted. If it is through a wheel bearing it would be getting foooking hot,,,,next time you go for a drive have a look. (dont touch the wheel...it mite be proper hot) just piss on the alloy or something and see how hot it seems..... if the alloy (not the disk) steams then problem solved....

loss of milage look for stuck brake caliper or misinstalled bearing new not always right

It sounds to me as though there is every likelihood that your front brakes are binding on. On a gentle incline does it roll freely or maybe you can judge this by very gently rolling up to , say, a set of traffic lights or similar, and feeling if the car rolls unhindered by the brakes. A new set of discs and pads may sort this out especially if there is a substantial ridge around the perimeter of your discs.

Best wishes

after a journey do a whell heat test. find one hotter than the others.

Is chewck all the wiring on your lambda circuit. the sensors are tougher than the wiring especially after 13 yrs or so next to the exhaust. make sure the earths are good. i found that the standard setup is pretty good at masking issues. as soon as you up the boost and re-chip the problems come out. i found many an issue with my car after the rechip. my SNS tuned red top stup on a 65mm returns aruond 25-28mpg or about 12 when on boost proper.
