Clunking front end!

Recommended Posts

my corrado has standard vr6 suspension which i know is getting tired but in the last few months i'm getting a loud 'clunk' from the front passenger side wheel area as i pull away, brake, or go over bumps at slow speed.

there is no obvious play in any thing, but the car wanders really badly on uneven road surfaces.

I thinks it's either suspension, a drive shaft, or possibly engine mount, (had solid alloy front mount fitted then clunking began fairly soon after)

Any thoughts?? whats the best ways to check/ isolate problem? have tried every thing i can think of!!

Check your wishbone bushes, I had a similar problem. I replaced the bushes in mine, but neglected to slide in the collar. The result was a random clonk in the circumstances you mention. Jacked it up, slipped the pins in and sorted.

It could mean yours are up for replacement, however top mounts, drive shaft weights, engine mounts etc... could give the same symptom I'm told. Hope you find it without too much hassle mate.

Fixed it!!! :D finally found the source of the clunking to be the joint on the wheel end of the front wishbone, one of the 2 bolts that hold it to the wish bone had come loose and the wheel had just enough movement to clunk!! and the best bit is it didn't cost a penny!

if only all the problems on a vr6 were so easily fixed......
