Supercharged 2 Posted September 13, 2005 MarkGolf, on a VR6?? - are you talking about the serpentine belt tensioner? - if so have a search on here 'aux tensioner', the bearing is replacable for about a tenner (whole unit is £60 from Ford/VAG)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 13, 2005 If it feels grainy but not stiff, take the pulley off (thread is left handed, clockwise to slacken), carefully prize the bearing's seal out, wash the bearing out with solvent, allow to dry then repack with grease. That'll buy you another 5 to 10K. As Steve recommends, get a whole new assembly as past 100K, the tensioner springs are past their best anyway.
Chris VR6nos 0 Posted September 14, 2005 alternatively, but a charger kit as the charger will then act as a tensioner and do away with the OEM item   Chris
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 14, 2005 LOL...Oh I've found a 7 rib single sided belt of the right size. Got the part number at work. It's off a merc panel van.
