G60 Twin Inlets - Lowering the radiator?

Recommended Posts

Two months after buying my golf g60 intercooler, I'm finally installing it!

Now while I've got the front end off, and I'm messing around with radiators etc. I was thinking it would be cool to try install a second air inlet to the charger. I did some reading up on previous topics about this, and found that the general opinion was, to this properly the radiator needs to be moved down in order to get suffient cold air to the second inlet.

After looking at where the radiators mounted, I was wondering how exactly you lower it? Its sat on the cross member which means it would either need moving forward so that it sits infront of the cross member. Or you actually cut into the cross member :? I know a couple of people have done this in the past, what did you do?

Also I'll try take pictures of everything I do when installing the intercooler so a how-to can be written :)

Cheers, Chris

it will be quite hard to do with a rallye / golf intercooler as you will find problems with pipework from the u-bend to the cooler...

ah yes of course if the radiator moves, then the intercooler has to move... Is it worth doing if the pipework ran across the back of the radiator?

My original plan was to make up something similar to this:

I'd then cut a hole below the filter the same as the carbon cannister hole on the other side in order to get a cold air feed to the second filter. However if the pipework was getting heat soaked then I'm not sure the extra intake would be worthwhile if it was just sucking in hot air?

16VG60 has done this and also I think woody has done it as well(could be wrong though)

It becomes Hard to do when retaining the rallye/golf intercooler. Its easy when using the modded rs2 ones. It can be done but you would need to get custom made pipework made which would far outway any gains you might see from an extra inlet
