Ok, I got a suspision that my head gasket has gone

Because of a wierd loud bubly sound when I accelerate ( Idle of course and on the road ) Also I have app. 10bhp, anyone know the cost of these head gaskets? I think they cost a fair bit and why do they? The look like something you can make lol.

Im just desperate to sort out this effing car now as Im gonna need it soon as Im going away for courses.

If your going to change it make sure you get an Elring one from GSF as they are pretty much the best you can get. They aren't that expensive, mine was about 20 odd quid for a G60!

The tell-tale signs of a screwed head gasket are...

Puffs of white smoke (i.e. steam) from the exhaust

Using lots of coolant

White 'mayo' (oil emulsion) on the dipstick or on the oil cap (if the mayo goes on the cap after a nice long run then it's probably just condensation, but if it's on the dip-stick - game over).

The gasket itself is pretty cheap, it's just a bit of cardboard or steel (dunno which for a valver), but the labour to fit it won't be cheap...

Ahh right I wondered why people say they cost so much.

I found a site for a 16v head for like £16 or £18, and wasnt sure if it was genuine.

Thanks anyways
