whats this?

hi could any body enlighten me to what this is(see below) it is under the inner wing on the n/s at the front and looks like some kind of coil/sensor. oh yea and its unpluged? :roll:

any help would be great. :D

It looks like a solonoid of some kind,were do those wires go?,they def. don't look O/E VAG.

i have no idea i have not investigated that far.i can only see the wires disapear under the battery tray. i have nether seen one before.

s.g, if you have an uprated loom it needs to be disconnected

Yeah, else the sidelights will switch dipped headlights on!

cheers guys yes i have a uprated loom on, the guy i bought it off fitted it. so i guess i leave it unplugged.

It's a ballast resistor - a series resistance for the dim-dip headlights.
