Hi guys! Just registered. I've never posted on a VW forum before. :salute:

 

I don't have a Corrado (although I wouldn't mind one) but have a mk2 Golf Gti 16V which I need some advice on.

 

It needs a new engine and gearbox. It is the KR engine and suffered the exploding gearox fate due to the previous owner. As a result of this the bottom end of the engine is holed and leaks transmission fluid when driving.

 

I bought it for £100 fully aware of its shortcomings. I thought it would be a good project.

 

I'm just wondering what my best options are and possible companies who can help me as I live in Central Scotland and there are no specialist VW breakers around. :mad:

 

I would really love to fully restore the car. By that I mean bare shell respray and virtually all new parts etc.

 

I'm new to the internet VW scene so any help/ideas/links to useful sites would be much appreciated.

Cheers mate. I've owned a Scirocco Scala and a mk2 Golf 1.6 cl before but I've never had to search for engines etc. It's a nightmare! I've not had the internet for that long so didn't join any sites when I had my old Dubs.

 

I currently drive around in a mk3 Astra (yeuch) while my valver sits there distraught

One of the most well known VW specialists in Scotland are Star Performance.. i'm afraid my geography up north is not that good so not sure where they are in relation to you but their website can be found @ http://www.starperformance.co.uk

Checked them out. They're actually only about 13 miles from me as they're situated in Kirkcaldy. I'll give them a ring tomorrow morning.
