rixy 0 Posted December 13, 2005 Hi, i bought this vr6 manifold of the bay for a mere 20.00 so i had one to stick on as a spare when i get mine polished up or chromed or somethin, but was wondering how to tell if its a 2.8 one or a 2.9 one, the part numbers are 021 133 233 k mbf3 cheeers
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted December 13, 2005 look at the underside of the manifold,if it has ribs around the inlet track its a 2.8 for restriction. If it has no webs its a 2.9.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted December 13, 2005 also early types of 2.8 manifolds with 2.8 DOHC cast on top are the same size as 2.9,but there are not many about.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 13, 2005 That's probably a Golf one, part number for the ABV manifold is 021 133 223 E.
rixy 0 Posted December 15, 2005 right o, cheers
VWci 0 Posted December 15, 2005 I just found this number... They are different....
psykokid 0 Posted December 16, 2005 you can also tell by flipping the manifold over and looking at the part between the throttle body and the main part of the intake runners. The 2.9 has a lager area for airflow vs the 2.8. heres a photo illustrating ABV on the left and AAA on the right
chrishill 0 Posted December 16, 2005 so i guess a nice upgrade for any 2.8 owners would be a 2.9 manifold!
psykokid 0 Posted December 16, 2005 so i guess a nice upgrade for any 2.8 owners would be a 2.9 manifold! yup, guys here stateside go nuts for them since they only came on very early 92 models. The rest of the VR's all got the standard 2.8 AAA manifold.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 16, 2005 so i guess a nice upgrade for any 2.8 owners would be a 2.9 manifold! Not necessarily! OBD2 Golf VRs have a lot more low down pull than ABV 2.9s.....largely down to the narrower bore throttle body and 'throated' intake, which speeds up gas flow. The larger plenumned intake is better for top end and indeed EIP chop up AAA manifolds to copy ABV ones. The hog out the ribbed bits and weld a plate over the top. I suppose the States is the best place to sell my ABV manifold then :-)
