Valerian 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Not used the C for a couple of weeks as i have been away. Yesterday i replaced the ignition switch....(not as difficult as i had anticipated).....then went to start the old girl and nothing. Seems the battery has gone dead on me now. Experience tells me it shouldn't go flat after just 2 weeks but i have read some other threads on here about poor battery life. input anyone?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 19, 2005 2-3 weeks seems to be the average life of most normal batteries when left standing in Corrados. Alarms and the Digital clock draw residual current that eventually flatten them....and normal lead acid batts don't have a particularly low self discharge rate. One solution is Optima batteries, which are different from your norm. They don't suffer from vibration issues and have a very low self discharge rate. They can be left on a shelf for a year without losing any charge. There's a group buy on them here
Valerian 0 Posted December 19, 2005 I guess it must have something to do with the way that Corrados are wired up. My Nissan can sit for months and still start no problem. Mind you ....i don't suppose the fact that the Rad fan runs after the engine is turned off helps much either.
RW1 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Alarms and the Digital clock draw residual current that eventually flatten them Measured mine recently and it was drawing 0.25amps. Thats OK in my case considering what hanging on the battery (Rocco was 0.070amps) 0.25amps per hour into a 60amp hour battery = 240hours (10 days) in theory. But with only say 60% available before battery volts under starter load dropsbelow 9.2 volts = 6 days standing. (9.2 volts is about where the electronics shut down = no start) Electrical load in off condition? = Car, radio/CD jukebox, voltmeter/oil gauges, alarm on. . Trig 0 Posted December 20, 2005 My VR just started on the first turn of the key after sitting in the Garage for 11 days; standard battery, alarm set, i'm pretty pleased with that :D
