Tom B 0 Posted February 4, 2006 My mate has a Golf with a Rado G60 conversion in it. He's found that whenever he has the car on, even if its idling on his drive, he'll find the Supersprint 4-2-1 manifold glowing red hot. He wanted to know if this is right, or if they've sent him a manifold thats meant to be for something that runs a little cooler. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Supercharged 2 Posted February 4, 2006 I'd say it's running lean!
Tom B 0 Posted February 4, 2006 He did also think that. He wasn't sure if it would be running rich or lean for it to do that. He's a panel beater and by his own admission he's no mechanic, but he was on the right lines :) Thanks Supercharged! :D Has anyone else got any alternative ideas? We may as well work out all eventualities!
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted February 4, 2006 If it is running lean get him to get it sorted ASAP before he possibly melts a piston man !
W3RKD 0 Posted February 4, 2006 I would recomend getting the fueling / timing checked before he drives the car any futher as he could be risking some serious damage.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 4, 2006 Supersprint (the gods of tubular manifolds) are thin walled stainless. They will readily glow as they don't have half the metal area of iron to disperse heat with. Is the manny lagged? If not, it should be. You want all the heat you get with tubular mannies or it'll cool down quickly, affecting scavenging performance. However, at idle, it shouldn't be any more than a cherry red after a hard run. If it's just sitting there idling from cold glowing, then defo get the fuelling checked over as the others have said.
