VR6 South 0 Posted February 15, 2006 The VR passed it's MoT first time again yesterday. Sixth year in a row  :D However I was advised that my sump gasket is begining to leak. Is this a DIY job?
VR6 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Yeah dead easy. A ton of bolts all the way round and a few pieces of engine cover to remove. Easy but very fiddly and back-breaking! Might be worth fitting a new sump while you're at it. If yours is a bit battered and oily. They don't cost too much - about £40 I think.
KarmannVR6 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Yeah definately a DIY job. Drain the oil, get the car up on axle stands and undo all the 10mm bolts round the sump. Replace with a genuine VAG gasket.
VR6 South 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Thanks! Defo doing it myself. I can wait as it's not too bad and it only had an oil change yesterday.
dub envy 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Did mine on my road. Not the toughest of jobs, but you get arm ache from doing up the 3,000,000 sump bolts.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 15, 2006 VW have superceded the old ribbed rubber gasket with a fibre type one now, which seals a lot better.
