designrob 0 Posted February 16, 2006 I need some advice pls! To add to the long list of things going wrong with my car at the moment, the Clutch now needs replacing! :( I have been quoted £500.00 for a genuine VW Clutch Kit inc Fitting. or £330 for a After Market LUK Clutch! If I dont go for the VW Clutch, will there be a great difference in the feel etc? Is there much difference in quality? cheers
Timo. 0 Posted February 16, 2006 Daylight Robbery........... I would go for genuine.
corradophil 3 Posted February 16, 2006 I have an LUK in my valver and have no problems whatsoever, if it was me I'd go with LUK.
Supercharged 2 Posted February 16, 2006 What car is this? The VW clutches are usually a mixture of LuK, SACHS and Valeo and are alot heavier duty than the pattern kits... The difference in price should only be about £20...
Jim 2 Posted February 16, 2006 Looks like a Rado VR6 from the stud pattern on the car in his avatar...
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 16, 2006 Eagle eyes! :-) In the case of the VR, I'd always use a genuine one as the patterns, despite being made by the same supplier to VAG, are sheeeite. I'm not getting into how many I've had replaced under warranty.....suffice to say, the last one was done 20K ago and was VAG and is perfect. I would also recommend replacing the flywheel (£75 exchange) to ensure all mating surfaces are 100% true, or you might get judder problems.
Supercharged 2 Posted February 16, 2006 And I think Stealth do the chains and the clutch for about £650...
gaz the geezer 0 Posted February 16, 2006 would also recommend replacing the flywheel (£75 exchange) to ensure all mating surfaces are 100% true, or you might get judder problems. is it possible to get the flywheel just skimmed rather than replace ? Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 16, 2006 Yep, costs about £25 last time I looked and you can also take the oppurtunity to shed a few pounds from it too :-)
designrob 0 Posted February 16, 2006 Cheers for the advice guys. It's for a VR6 Thanks Kev for the advice about the flywheel, I will ask the garage about that too!
