Jon TDI 0 Posted January 29, 2003 A strange thing has happened to my Pioneer head unit. All the illumination has gone out. All the buttons & main display are not lighting up. I've taken it out & checked the wiring but can't find anything wrong. It's a detachable front panel model & somebody suggested cleaning the contacts on the front panel & main unit. Anymore suggestions? Cheers.
G60Jet 1 Posted January 29, 2003 Get a Kenwood  seriously its a fault with the unit imho, the illumination is power from the unit not the car, the Car controls the dimmer, which makes the illumination lower when the light are on. hth
longman 0 Posted January 29, 2003 i would definitely check the little contacts behind the face, clean them and also you may need to bend them a little so that they protrude a bit more for more contact. other than that bin the bitch and get another cheap one from halfords. Jon TDI 0 Posted January 31, 2003 Had a look at the contacts on the main unit. (It's one of these where the front face rotates downwards & slides off a metal bracket, & then you push the metal bracket back on to the main unit) Anyway, I found the problem. The contacts are attached to the metal bracket which are then carried to the insides of the unit via a ribbon. The ribbon has somehow been creased & this is why the illumination has gone. To make matters even worse, the ribbon has now snapped across the crease!! It doesn't really matter now, as I have set my mind on a new head unit. In fact, I have already ordered it!! .A.N.T. 0 Posted March 6, 2003 I had exactly the same problem. I phoned round a few dealers and finally got put in touch with the people that make the components. It cost £18 for a new ribbon which was mailed out to me, then about an hour of soldering and fettling with a screwdriver, and all is now ok with it. Design fault really, the way it bends and creases the ribbon, but what can ya do about it.....
