double-6s 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Just unplugged my MAF after reading another thread on poorly running vr's and found this....... is this normal? looks like 6 connections on one side of the plug and only 5 left on the other side? any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 2, 2006 That is normal, yep. Is the water seal there inside the plug mate? You should be able to see it right at the bottom. They sometimes drop out and let water onto the connections.
double-6s 0 Posted March 2, 2006 cheers kev. what's with the lack of a connector on the 6th one then? sorry, where's the seal?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 2, 2006 It's just redundant mate. If you get an old MAF and prize the top off, you'll see the 6th Pin is also redundant. It was probably for a different make of car and the extra what ever wasn't used on the VR6. It's the same with the dummy plug on the intake breather pipe..... you have the plug on it, but the 'thing' it's connected to is just a plastic ring! VW cost cutting.... they didn't want to pay someone to unbind the looms, remove surplus connections and bind them up again :-) The seal just sits right at the bottom of the plug. If you can't see it, it's not there and you need one ;-) It's clear rubber normally.
