obcorrado 0 Posted March 9, 2006 Can anyone help? The problem started when one day my wipers, heater and fog lights stopped working. When I flicked the relay (strange idea i know, but it worked) it all started working again and every time i took it to the garage they couldnt find a problem. Then one day the relay went completely and once i have replaced it I notice that he new one went, and started to melt the fuse box where it was located. With this i was told to take the fuse box out and have a look inside at the circuit boards. When i split the box i found a maze of strips but no problems so i put it back in while i await delivery of a new fusebox. Now it doesn't work at all even when riggling the relay! Does any one have any ideas on this one or has anyone come across it before? Is the relay i am refering to called the Auxiliary Relay? Please Help. Cheers Olly
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 9, 2006 Not familiar with an auxillary relay. There is a load induction relay though that is there to stop the accessories overloading the fuseboard. You can tell when that's working as the stereo will shut off when you crank the motor over. And speaking of motors, what model of Rado is yours? I have heard of fuse boards going. Water can sometimes leak through A pillar onto the fuse board if a replacement wing was fitted improperly, but I assume you've checked for that? Often you can't diagnose a certain electrical fault that a replacement board cures. Thankfully the boards are the same in Corrados and shared with 1990 on Golf MK2s and 3s, so are quite cheap. See how you get on with a new board. If the problem persists I reckon you've got a bad earth or short to positive somewhere that's killing the relay.
