what kind of damage would you expect?

just been lookin on the trader spotted this a3,just wonderin what other damaged might have happened along with the snapped cambelt,would it be a worthwhile buy?

The list could be VERY Expensive but you dont know till you take the head off...

 

Bent Valves

Valve seats damaged - (means new head!)

 

Bent valves could then have impacted the pistons which inturn knacker the pistons

 

The list goes on....

I'd steer well clear at that price. Once you factor in £1200 for a new engine and the effort to fit it, as a worst case scenario, it's not such a bargain.

yeah it sounds good if it just needs a new belt,sure they would have just replaced it if that was the case,i agree gonna give it a miss i think

When my Belt Snapped on the Passat it was cheaper to buy a new engine. That was without paying for labour also so be warned..

i had a cambelt snap on my old golf gti - cost 470 quid to have valves replaced and re seated and that was at mates rates! Car cost me less to buy lol
