.A.N.T. 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Hi, I've noticed a rattley noise coming from the front end somewhere for quite a while now. Also the wheels rotate (when jacked up) forward and backward quite a way whilst in gear. prob total movement is about 1hr on a clockface My mates 16v doesn't do this, his wheels won't move at all when in gear. This makes me think that something is worn/loose in the transmission area. Any ideas what? It's done 180k and is still on it's 1st gearbox. Could that be it? dub envy 0 Posted April 25, 2006 My front wheels were moving back and forth loads when on the rolling road... worn front bushes.
dr_mat 0 Posted April 25, 2006 I think he means rotating on the driveshafts, not that the wheel hub is moving at all. And yes, it's pretty normal for a high-ish miles car to show some (significant) slop in the drivetrain. That's what the sagittal clutch plate springs are for - to damp the action when the clutch takes up the slop. The noises are another thing. Most likely wheel bearings. iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted April 25, 2006 dr mat so would replacng the clutch make his problem better
dr_mat 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Errrrm, no... The clutch doesn't remove the slop, it simply damps the shunt that occurs when you apply drive.
.A.N.T. 0 Posted April 26, 2006 I've replaced the clutch about 20-30k ago when I did the engine swop, and the wheel bearing were done about a month or two ago. If the play is 'supposed' to be there then that isn't so bad, but I don't like the rattly noise when driving as it's clearly audiable from people on pavements... "oh look, there goes that rattley black corrado again..."
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted April 26, 2006 does it rattle the whole time or just under brakeing?
