Over heating / ignition problem

Recommended Posts

Hey, Im new 2 this website so i dont know if im posting this in the right place but anyways i have a 92 slc vr6 and iv been having problems with the car over heating after about 20 min and the coolant reservoir starts over flowing. I have no idea whats wrong but i have noticed the fan does not go on so i dont know if its the fan or maybe some connection to the fan has come loose. what can i do to check if the fan works or not and what other problem it could be. My second problem is the ignition switch. To start the car i have to turn the key right as usual but i have to hold it and push the key up inorder for the car to start. Any suggestion, could it be the starter?? i have no idea. Please help Thanks

Thanks for the advice but im still having trouble finding the thermostat and is there a way to check to see if the fan works. I was reading in the manual that if u take the connector from the fan off and touch it to a ground the fan should work, but when i took the switch off fom the fan it was a female connector so i have no way of touching it to a ground, unless what i detached is not the thermoswitch and somthing else. as for the push button start does it replace the key all together, or do i need to keep the old ignition switch please help

as you look from the front of the car on the right side of the radiator if you look down the edge you will see the switch in the rad. remove the multi plug and bridge 2 teminals with a piece of wire, and the fan will cut in and run. if its 3 wires 1 is live and the other 2 are for slow and fast speeds.

push button only replaces the final position on the ignition switch so yes you still need a working ignition switch.

thermostat is a pain to do on the vr6 try pm kevhaywire and he will tell you best way to do it, what he doesnt know about vr6's isnt worth knowing
