Mocal Oil Cooler / Oil level

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about this the other day, now that i have a mocal oil cooler on the g60 do i now have to put more oil into the engine than previously specified by vw?

Surely when the oil is flowing through the cooler its taking it from the sump?? therefore when warm the oil level in the sump will be lower as its flowing into the oil cooler aswell? which may cause problems?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I do believe the Mocal stores about half a litre, but stick the usual amount in - run the car up to temp (so the Mocal opens) and check it again... :)

hmmm... i ve been running it for a few thousand miles at the vw specified oil level!! is half a litre likely to cause much damage to the bearing shells??

its alright....

I just checked it! seems to be ok, i checked the level on the dip stick when the thermo for the cooler opens and the level is at just under full on the dip stick so looks like i am getting worked up over nothing! 8)

i seem to remember slightly over filling it to accomodate cooler when i last did my oil change. lol

Mate, once the cooler has oil in it, it will stay in it. Once it gets up to temperature oil will flow through it but there will always be oil in it. If your oil is at the max level when cold then its fine.

The only time the cooler wont have anything in it was when you installed the cooler the first time!

When the car gets warm, it doesn't take oil away to fill the cooler. The cooler is already got oil in it.

Its that clear!! You're worrying about nowt
