Storm Warning 0 Posted February 16, 2008 As I said, I didn't pay too much attention to the booth, I'll look next time I go up. They have a rado up there which they sprayed many many years ago, it still looks great now, but I'll ask about heat and paint type when I go up to satisfy the critics :? Mk1, you saying I don't care about my car a waste of money then if I intend not to put through a car wash?
MK1Campaign 0 Posted February 16, 2008 Mk1, you saying I don't care about my car a waste of money then if I intend not to put through a car wash? Lol no thats not what i meant. The ceramic is extra durable and doesnt scratch as easy. In theory it shouldnt chip as easily too. I know your car wont be going near a car wash. Storm Warning 0 Posted February 16, 2008  My car had suffered with the mainly motorway miles with a peppering on the front from little stone chips, after discussing the option of the additive to make the paint softer/elastic at the front they suggested the hard option as their prefered solution. I heard that it cures so hard that you only have a short time to polish it before its too hard! Time will tell I guess...
Storm Warning 0 Posted February 25, 2008 Update: Went for a quick look at how the respray was going today, It was so good I was god smacked and had to hold back on emotion :notworthy: By the end of the week it should be ready for some reassembly to begin.. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC01155.JPG[/attachment:2q8ufq12] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC01156.JPG[/attachment:2q8ufq12] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC01162.JPG[/attachment:2q8ufq12] DSC01163.JPG[/attachment:2q8ufq12] Again, sorry about the pants pics, I was stuggling with either flash reflections or booth lighting reflections and I caught them in the middle of polishing hence the dust. Oh, stormchargedvr6, I had a very quick nose around the room, its sealed, with some sort of extractor venting, sealed lighting above and there is heating elements too. yeti 0 Posted February 26, 2008 I remember that scratch proof paint being talked about when i used to work at a car company, very clever stuff, last for about 3 years before it finally cures, in which time the tiny scratches you get every day simply 'fill themselves' by the molecules in the paint moving :-) o forgot to mention... love the plate :-)
Storm Warning 0 Posted February 26, 2008 Glad you like the plate, going to get a german one made with the stamps between the N and 5, think it will look great for 'shows' of course. I've heard there are a some self healing laquers in the pipeline, but I guess they'll be uber expensive. With this one the finish is glass like, as you can see hardly any paint colour shows in the reflection.

Slimg60 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Car's looking awesome, hopefully see it around Lincoln when it's finished. Where about's are you getting it sprayed? is it local? I'm trying to find somewhere as I plan on getting mine re-sprayed in the near future. Cheers Slim
Goldie 2 Posted March 18, 2008 Coming along very nicely, certainly doing some spending, youre going to like the KWs.. How much are VR charging for the mirror glass???
Storm Warning 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Its one of those things, you get so far and start to have 'feature creep'. I fear this is just the start of it :bonk: Just can't wait to get her back but for now I have to live with the occasional visit. This is the 2nd time I've had a box of coilovers :-) the H&R RSS's never made it to my car! I think the KWs look better than those and I can't wait to get them on! The mirrors were something like 37 passenger and 32 drivers, from GPC. I had been looking at various options from DDI to having glass cut down to fit on the heating elements but decided that while expensive the OEM route was the most sensible. They are VAG specialists and the mechanic has a VR so knows the C well. Don't think I've ever seen you in Lincoln.. don't suppose your going to Stanford Hall are you? Get ourselves a convoy

Storm Warning 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Volkskraft are on 01522 595407, not the easiest place to find, there is small sign at the entrance (on the left side as you head out of lincoln) on the fiskerton road about here:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=15193639769851638052,53.234910,-0.419890&saddr=53.232551,-0.409584&daddr=&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=12&sll=53.231523,-0.418167&sspn=0.168105,0.541077&ie=UTF8&z=12 I've had all my work done there since I've known about them and I can't fault them in anyway. If you mention Duncan with the Storm they'll probably narrow down who introduced you :-) I'm going up there at the end of the day to see how my car is getting along. Slimg60 0 Posted March 19, 2008 cool, might have to take a trip over there for a quote on the respray and a few other jobs I need doing.
Storm Warning 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Where abouts are you in Lincoln? At least you'll see their handywork on a rado if you take a visit :-) we'll have to meet so you can see it back on the road and out in the sunshine.

Possibly Slimg60 too, The natural route for me is A46 straight down to the M1.. there is a M1 convoy meeting near Notts I think which I'm tempted with.. youcould either go across there or I could take the 607 perhaps. Sure a few more cars will come out of the wood work as time goes by and we can make a plan. Such a rare event to see more than 1 corrado at a time around here ... or any where, be a shame not to convoy :-D
Slimg60 0 Posted March 19, 2008 I live just south of the city at Waddington. Definately have to meet up when it's back on the road.
Storm Warning 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Know the area well and pass through frequently.. the A607 isn't the blat it used to be but still love it.. Do you work at the base? Been to see my car today, its out the spray booth and ready for the assembly to begin next week  2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC01191b.JPG[/attachment:1m69l1mh] DSC01193.JPG[/attachment:1m69l1mh] With all that weight missing its got the ride height of a Jeep! RDH 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Car looks great 8) could you tell me where you got the aerial and base from?, need a new rubber gasket for mine, and struggling to find one. Cheers Rich
Storm Warning 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Aerial is from ebay for £2.45! it is spot on, not sure it is VAG (£30) but it is just the same as the new type masts. The bases are available from dealers still (£70-80 IIRC), but the rubber part against the roof is from 'VAG Parts' for... Are you sitting down? £17.19 + Delivery.. :cuckoo: a skank, they were only £11 two weeks ago and that was bad enough.
Slimg60 0 Posted March 19, 2008 Yer I work at the base. Cars looking awesome, I'll have to give Volkskraft a call and arrange to get a quote on mine done, and have a sneaky peak at your whilst I'm there. I know what you mean about the A607, the 50mph limit and the poor surface have ruined an awesome road. Have replaced the roof strips and scraper seals on my C, still in shock over how much they cost, nearly fell on the floor when I was quoted over £70 for a replacement aerial. Thanks again Rich

Its quite dusty at the moment and the interior looks like a frags gone off it! Next week will see a major change. Also, the Brant Road along the bottom from Lincoln to Grantham... that is lovely and flowing in the right conditions...
