Yep - it's in the instruction manual btw....

As above only use the green stuff which is about £4 from VAG (NOT red ATF fluid!!)

Hmmmm....

Steve - this has been a point of discussion on here several times and I have seen both red and black caps on Corrado's but every VW dealer I have been to has said that green is the stuff to use and they only sell ATF fluid for use in Auto boxes...

GSF/Euro seem to say what you have said above but I have never seen this in a manual and my friend in Audi parts says that no VW's have ever used ATF fluid for PAS as it rots the seals of the rack components - both types...

Also G 004 (which replaced G 002 and is about half the price) is the only fluid listed for a Corrado on ETKA and I don't think I've ever seen an original (ie unmolested) Corrado with red fluid...

Have you got any other info or documentation on this as it's something that really needs clearing up?!?

It is a contentious issue and has been for years and as far as I know there is no definitive answer, the black cap is a good one and the only explanation I have is it is a universal replacement. We go by the bottle cap colour and also the ledged on the bottle which tells you to use approved fluids (very helpful) and occasionally says nur (only) mineral or ATF fluid respectively. The general rule is all cars after 1992 use mineral. One thing though, I have never seen problems from using ATF. My wife’s G2 has used a late G60 rack with ATF for the last five years with no problems.
